What a day of baseball. In addition to all the MLB Opening Day festivities on Thursday, the Tigers will open up their biggest ACC series of the season against the #2 team in the country, Wake Forest.

The Deacs are absolutely loaded. Thursday night they will be throwing Rhett Lowder, the preseason All-American righty who is this weeks ACC Pitcher of the Week and Perfect Game’s Pitch of the Week. Lowder has a 5-0 record with a 1.42 ERA. The other weekend starters are also as good as they get. Lefty Sean Sullivan is 4-1 with a 1.76 ERA and Lefty Josh Hartle is 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA. Centerfielder Tommy Hawke is the Deacs’ best hitter and lead off man, while clean-up hitter and third baseman is the power guy of the lineup with 14 homers.

Last weekend Wake swept Miami and held the canes to a combined 2 runs on the weekend. During the midweek action, Wake crushed in-state foe High Point 12-3. The only three teams to beat the Deacs this year were Coastal Carolina, Duke, and Notre Dame. Notre Dame and Duke both lost their three game series to Wake.

Weather wise Thursday and Friday should be excellent nights for baseball. Saturday has rain early in the day but it should be gone by first pitch time.
