#4 Louisville (23-11, 14-6) @ Clemson (18-18, 12-12)
Friday-6:00 PM ACCNX, Saturday-3:00 PM ACCNX, Sunday 2:00 PM ESPNU
In one of the toughest tests of the year, the Louisville Cardinals will head to Clemson, South Carolina for an ACC Atlantic division showdown. Clemson is coming off a much needed sweep of Wake Forest. Louisville unfortunately saw last weekend’s series with Pitt get canceled, so the Cards enter coming off a ten day layoff. Their last game was on April 20, which was a 12-5 win over instate rival Kentucky. Louisville sits two games ahead of Notre Dame for first in the ACC Atlantic.
Catcher Henry Davis is the star of this Cardinals team. Per MLB.com, Davis is the seventh best prospect for the 2021 MLB draft. Davis is a quick and athletic catcher who could possibly transition to third base or outfield in the pros, a similar move star Bryce Harper made.
Louisville will open the series with a pair of lefties, as Michael Kirian pitches Friday and Luke Seed throws on Saturday. Clemson will counter on Friday with Mack Anglin and then with Keyshawn Askew on Saturday. Righty Luke Smith gets the nod on Sunday, while Clemson has yet to pick a pitcher.
Clemson didn’t get a chance to face Louisville last season before the abrupt ending due to Covid 19, but the 2019 matchup in the ACC Tournament was one for the record books. Tiger pitcher Mat Clark went eight innings, carrying a no hitter into the ninth. Clark finished giving up one hit before Jacob Hennessy came in to finish off the Cardinals, as Clemson took the 7-1 win.
