Game 1: Clemson 13 Notre Dame 7.
The series got out to a hot start for Clemson, blasting 4 homers in the opening game to pick up a 13-7 win over the Fighting Irish. Clemson freshmen Max Wagner, Caden Grice, and Jonathan French all went yard, in addition to veteran Bryce Teodosio. The offensive explosion allowed Davis Sharpe to earn his second win of the year and move the Tigers to 1-0 in conference play.
Game 2: Notre Dame 3 Clemson 1.
Game 2 saw the Tigers lacking in offense, falling to ND 3-1. While Clemson students were indulging in their Ain’t Patty’s Day bar crawl, Notre Dame had the luck o’ the Irish, holding Clemson to 1 run on 4 hits. Clemson saw its only run of the day when Cooper Ingle brought in James Parker on an RBI groundout. Ty Olenchuk suffered his first loss as a Tiger, moving to 1-1.
Game 3 Notre Dame 3 Clemson 2.
Things started out well when Caden Grice scored in the second inning to put Clemson up 1-0. Notre Dame tied it up a 1-1 in the fifth, and then took the lead in the sixth by pushing two runs across when Alex Urban got tripped up on the outfield hill and missed a deep fly, allowing Carter Putz a 2 RBI double. Grice ripped a deep homer in the bottom of the inning to get the Tigers within a run, but that was all she wrote, as Clemson fell 3-2, losing the first series of ACC play.
Clemson will look to get back on track Tuesday, hosting USC Upstate, before heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a three game series against the UNC Tar Heels.
