Class of 2021’s #1 player, 5-star DE Korey Foreman commits to Clemson

Clemson is becoming synonymous with landing 5-star Defensive Lineman

NCAA Football: Texas A&M at Clemson Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

The #1 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class, Korey Foreman, decided to shut things down after an exceptional Junior Day visit at Clemson. The elite DE was also considering USC, Oregon, and Georgia, and held offers from just about every major school in the country. This is one of the most impressive pulls of the Dabo Swinney era, and is a testament to just how big the Clemson brand has become.

Foreman is a very good athlete at 6’4” and 263 pounds, and does just about everything well on the Football field. He is extremely strong at the point of attack with his aggression manifesting itself while he is rushing the passer as well. Foreman moves extremely well for his size, and is very quick off the ball. He is athletic, and operated quite often in a stand-up edge rusher role despite being close to 270 pounds or more. He possesses good technique and already owns a solid repertoire of pass-rushing moves especially for his age.

It will be interesting to see if Foreman sticks at DE long-term. He is already at a large size for a DE and has lots of growing still to potentially do. It would not surprise to see Foreman end up as a DT and play along the interior should the growth continue. He likely still holds the athleticism to remain on the edge, however, and gives Clemson another potentially versatile Defensive Lineman.

Korey missed the beginning of his JR season through injury, but finished the year extremely strong playing against some of California’s toughest competition. He won the “alpha dog” distinction among OL/DL drills at the Opening Finals this past Summer despite being one of the youngest recruits at the event. Clemson just landed one of the best if not the best player in the country, and continues to stack their team with elite Defensive Lineman. Foreman is a day 1 contributor type, and was wanted by every school in the country for a reason.

The commitment gives the Tigers their biggest commitment of the cycle, and is yet another example of how effective Clemson’s recruiting pitch is during its’ elite Junior Days. Korey Foreman may end up as the #1 overall player in the 2021 class, which would be the 3rd time in 4 years that Clemson will have been able to accomplish that. Having a player of this high of a profile commit to early is huge for the class, and he will undoubtedly help recruit the other targets that the coaches are after.
