Clemson gained a verbal commitment from 4-star tight end Jake Briningstool today. Briningstool is from Brentwood, Tennessee (Ravenwood) and is listed at 6’6” 215lbs. He is the #2 ranked tight end in the 2021 class per the 247Sports Composite and the #112 player overall. Briningstool owned many offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, FSU, Miami, Michigan, and Texas A&M but ultimately chose the Tigers with minimal competition from his father’s alma mater Michigan State. The Clemson staff extended an offer during his outstanding performance at the 2019 Dabo Swinney football camp and has led ever since. Briningstool has been on commitment watch ever since his visit during the Texas A&M game this past fall but Elite Junior Day provided the necessary push to secure his commitment.
Briningstool’s athletic testing is not available yet, however, he has generated shock waves throughout the recruiting world since emerging on the scene last summer. Briningstool received his first P5 offer in April 2019 from Michigan State, where his father played linebacker, and has amassed over 20 more since. He continually put on excellent performances at coaching camps while gaining notoriety. In fact, he was the lone 2021 tight end to leave Dabo Swinney’s camp this summer with an offer in hand - unlike #1 ranked tight end Cane Berrong. Briningstool’s spectacular summer culminated with another impressive performance at The Opening Nashville where he was named a top-5 offensive player by 247Sports’ Barton Simmons.
Briningstool has the frame to grow into a sturdy tight end that presents a pass catching threat. Camp notebooks highlight his ability to create separation in the passing game, adjust to the ball in air, and his great hands. The family has stated culture was the most important factor in his commitment decision and the personalities involved appear to be a great fit. He would be Clemson’s latest recruiting coup out of Tennessee if he is able to reach his potential.
Briningstool is the eighth member of Clemson’s 2021 class and is Clemson’s highest ranked tight end commitment in the history of the 247Sports Composite, beating out Dwayne Allen. He is probably Clemson’s lone TE take of the 2021 class.
