Former Clemson running back Tyshon Dye died Friday afternoon, July 5th, at the age of 25. He tragically drowned while swimming in Lake Russell, in Russell B. State Park, Elberton GA.
"All of our hearts are just broken. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I can honestly say Tyshon Dye is one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever been associated with or coached. We’re just all heartbroken tonight, and we’re praying for his family and know that he’s been called home.” - Dabo Swinney
Dye was the first player offered by former offensive coordinator Chad Morris. He appeared in 17 games for the Tigers from 2014-16, after redshirting in 2013. He had 76 carries for 351 yards as a Tiger, scoring 5 touchdowns.
By all accounts, Dye was the model student and teammate. After earning a degree from Clemson in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management in 2017, he transferred to East Carolina for the 2017 season where he had 50 carries for 217 yards and 6 catches for another 56 yards.
A Go Fund Me has been started by former Clemson Football players JK Jay and Jonathan Meeks to help with expenses. Anyone wishing to contribute can do so here:
STS extends their condolences to the Dye family.
