Javan White Transferring from Clemson

NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament- North Carolina State vs Clemson Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

It was announced this week that C/PF Javan White will transfer away from Clemson just a year after joining the program as a graduate transfer from Oral Roberts. He came in as a rare graduate transfer with two years of eligibility and will be immediately eligible to play with one year of college eligibility remaining at his next destination.

White underwhelmed this season as he only played 8.4 minutes per game averaging just 2.0 ppg and 2.0 rpg. He mostly battled in the post when Eli Thomas was out with foul trouble. Javan was tough, but struggled to finish around the basket. Some suspect he had a shoulder injury which he played through. If so, it may have masked some of his ability. Nonetheless, he began losing time to Trey Jemison late in the year. Although Eli Thomas is departing, there are high hopes for Jonathan Baehre. If Baehre, a transfer from UNC Asheville who will be eligible next season, meets expectations, White may have been looking at being third on the depth chart at C and PF.

With White gone, here’s what the depth chart could look like next season:

Potential 2020 Depth Chart

Position Starter Reserve
Position Starter Reserve
C Jonathan Baehre Trey Jemison
PF Aamir Simms Malik William
Wing Hunter Tyson Alex Hemenway*
Wing John Newman Chase Hunter*
PG Clyde Trapp Al-Amir Dawes*

* Incoming freshman

There may be one or more transfers incoming. Even with White leaving, a transfer PG that would allow Trapp to play at the wing is arguably the position of greatest need. We’ll keep you updated as the offseason unfolds. Be sure to check the site as our season recap article will be posting shortly.
