Class of 2020 WR E.J. Williams Signs Clemson Letter of Intent

NCAA Football: ACC Championship-Virginia vs Clemson Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Once again Clemson has gone into Phenix City, AL, to grab a WR commit. E.J. Williams signed his Letter of Intent today to join Ajou Ajou as one of two receivers in the Class of 2020. The Alabama product measures in at 6’3” and weighs 188 lbs. Williams has been a bit under the radar given some of Clemson’s previous recruits, but the 4-star product has a .9556 player rating from 247 Sports. William’s primary recruiter was Jeff Scott with an assist by Todd Bates. Williams is considered the 19th best receiver in the country and had a lot of interest from Auburn.

Williams best comparison is Trevion Thompson but with better route running. He is going to have to work to improve his athleticism as well as being a bit more physical at the college level. Don’t be surprised to see him add some weight to compete with college DBs as well.

QT’s Take:

Turn on the tape and one immediately notices Williams’ height and length. He has excellent body control in the air during contested catches and has a knack for attacking the ball. Williams isn’t a burner but gains separation using his hands at the line of scrimmage and makes quick breaks out of routes. He should develop into a very reliable possession receiver who excels on 50/50 balls.

Phoenix City is a winning program that knows how to produce WR talent. Williams continues that pipeline to Clemson. With departures to the NFL Williams will have a chance to play the 9 or 5 position early once he adds some strength to get off of press coverage and adjust to the college level.
