ACC Power Rankings: Week 6

A bunch of ACC teams were on their bye week, Pitt survived a Duke rally, and Louisville gets a conference win!

NCAA Football: Boston College at Louisville Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

#1 Clemson (5-0, 3-0) (LW:#1)

After the three hour stress test that was the Clemson-UNC game, having a bye weekend wasn’t bad. The only downside is that it has given the talking heads more time to ramble on about Clemson’s early season performance. Paul Finebaum is now saying that Ohio State would beat us and it “wouldn’t be close.” Never thought I’d see Pawwwll stanning for the Ohio State University, but here we are. Anyway, Clemson is back in action with a 3:30 game Saturday, hosting Florida State. FSU is playing better, but Clemson could shut a lot of talk up with a blowout win.

#2 Notre Dame (4-1, 2-0 vs ACC) (LW:#2)

The Irish romped Bowling Green 52-0. ND will now host the real USC Saturday night.

#3 Wake Forest (5-0, 1-0) (LW:#3)

The Deacs had an open date as well. Wake hosts Louisville on Saturday.

#4 Virginia (4-1, 2-1) (LW:#5)

Open date for the Wahoos. They return to action Saturday night at Miami.

#5 UNC (3-3, 2-2) (LW:T#7)

It wasn’t always the prettiest, but the Tar Heels got a 38-22 win at Georgia Tech. The biggest thing for UNC was avoiding the hangover game after the Clemson game, and they were able to do that. UNC will get a well deserved bye week.

#6 Pitt (4-2, 1-1) (LW:#9)

Pitt came out and punched Duke in the mouth. I mean that in terms of a 23-0 lead, but also a pregame scuffle.

Nothing like the bad blood between Pitt and Duke. Pitt proceeded to let Duke come back and almost win before getting a late TD to secure a 33-30 win. What does it all mean? Well, we really have no clue in regards to Pitt. Plus after UCF’s loss to Cincinnati, that win for Pitt is less impressive. The Panthers remain an enigma. Pitt has this weekend off.

#7 Duke (3-2, 1-1) (LW:#4)

Duke followed their big win over Va Tech with this loss to Pitt. The Coastal looks like it will continue to be a mess. Devils host Georgia Tech this weekend.

#8 Syracuse (3-2, 0-1) (LW:#6)

‘Cuse also had a bye week. They’ll have a Thursday night date with NC State

#9 Louisville (3-2, 1-1) (LW:#14)

For the first time since November 2017, the Louisville Cardinals have won an ACC football game. The Cards outdueled Boston College 41-39. Louisville heads to #19 Wake Forest Saturday night.

#10 Florida State (3-2,2-1) (LW:#10)

The Noles had the weekend off. They come to Death Valley on Saturday.

#11 Boston College (3-3, 1-2) (LW:T#7)

Very bad start for Boston College losing to Kansas and Louisville, two of college football’s worst teams last year. Boston College has a week off before facing NC State.

#12 NC State (3-2, 0-1) (LW:#11)

State was also off. Play Syracuse on Thursday.

#13 Virginia Tech (3-2, 1-2) (LW:#13)

Despite blowing a 21-0 first quarter lead, Va Tech held on and beat Miami 42-35. Blowing a lead like that can be hard to stomach, as one Hokie linebacker showed us.

Hokies host Rhode Island Saturday.

#14 Miami (2-3, 0-2) (LW:#12)

Miami fell short in their comeback vs Virginia Tech. The Hokies had really struggled, but scored 42 on the Canes in their 42-35 win. Miami looks bad and now they host UVA Friday night.

#15 Georgia Tech (1-4, 0-2) (LW:#15)

In a season with so few positives to talk about, Georgia Tech can take solace knowing they scored one more point against UNC than Clemson did. The Jackets 38-22 loss is certainly an improvement over their two point performance against Temple. Georgia Tech also debuted special “super hero” uniforms to honor the kids at Children’s Atlanta Hospital, which included pregame capes.

This kind of stuff is awesome and all teams should do it more often. This is a very cool and creative way to bring awareness and honor those kids. Not to mention, that all gray look for Georgia Tech is very sharp. Good stuff, Jackets!! Georgia Tech heads to Duke this weekend
