Clemson had a week off to lick it’s wounds and figure some things out on offense after a bad road trip to New England.

The Tiger needs to come out and dominate Furman tonight. The offense needs a confidence boost and nothing improves confidence like putting the ball in the net a few times. Furman is coming off a win over the beleaguered Gamecocks, so they’re going to come into Riggs field expecting to get a result. Clemson needs to nip that feeling in the bud early.

Clemson opens the ACC schedule with the number one team in the nation. Wake Forest is currently 7-0 and probably have the most talented team in the nation. On the positive side, Virginia Tech gave them a run for their money in their last game, and Clemson has a defense capable of slowing down the Wake attack. If Clemson can conjure up a goal (or more likely 2) they can hang with the Demon Deacons. A rowdy crowd at Riggs would be a huge benefit.

Clemson came through with a big win over Miami in overtime to open their ACC slate. Miami is the type of team you absolutely have to beat because the conference is so stacked at the top. Clemson gave up goal right before the half and went into the locker room down in a game they were dominating everywhere but the scoreboard.

The Tiger’s jumped on the Hurricane’s early with a Miranda Westlake goal in the 50th minute. Clemson out shot Miami 13-0 in the 2nd half, but couldn’t grab the lead despite their dominance. Luckily, Miami native Mariana Speckmair ended the game with a goal in the 94th minute with a header off a corner kick.

Hey, did I mention that the ACC is tough? Well, Clemson gets a double dose of tough this week with 7-0 UVA and 6-2-1 UNC coming to town.

UVA is really, really, good and are currently ranked 5th in the nation. The good news is that the only team they’ve played with decent talent (Penn State) only lost 2-1. Clemson is looking for a similar score line, except they’re hoping for 2-1 in their favor. UVA’s offense has been on fire so far this year, but the Tigers might be able to slow them down. Westlake and Speckmair have been producing goals recently. If the Tigers can find a way to slow down the Cavaliers, they’ll have a fighting chance.

UNC isn’t quite as tough, but they’re currently ranked 6th in the nation. The good news for Clemson is that UNC has been on a bit of a struggle recently, losing 2 out of their last 3 and including a 1-0 victory over FSU. It may be a good time to get the Tarheels because their offense has struggled, despite an abundance of talent. Out of the 2 games this week. I think UNC offers the best opportunity for a positive result.
