After having Tuesday off, the Tigers open up ACC Tourney play with a game against the eleventy seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish limp into today’s game having been swept by Louisville to close the regular season and dropping their first tournament game yesterday to Miami 6-2. ND held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, but lost the lead during a five run inning for the seventh seeded Canes. Clemson comes in trying to pad their resume and keep their national seed hopes alive. The Tigers are currently projected as the number eight seed in the NCAA tournament by Baseball America. D1baseball.com has Clemson falling just short of national seeding as the number nine overall seed

Clemson and Notre Dame met earlier this year in a three game tilt in South Bend. After the opening Friday night game was postponed due to frigid tempuratures, the Irish were able to steal game one with a 5-2 win on that Saturday, April 7th. The Tigers were able to come back and take both games of the Sunday double headed, winning 6-3 and 5-2. The weather will be much warmer in Durham today, however a threat of rain and thunderstorms could impact today’s game.

Tournament Update

In addition to Miami’s win over Notre Dame, day one of the tournament saw sixth seed Florida State get a 3-2 walkoff win over tenth seed Virginia, and twelfth seed Pitt upset eighth seed Georgia Tech 2-1. The win was Pitt’s first ever ACC tournament win in their first ever ACC tournament game. Besides the Tigers today’s action will feature ninth seed Wake Forest against fifth seed Louisville in the 11:00 AM game, and then Pitt will face top seeded North Carolina in the 7:00 PM nightcap. As always with these tournaments, schedules start times are subject to change due to weather and other games.
