Clemson Baseball - Tigers hold on to beat Catamounts

It was not pretty, but Clemson got the win over W Car tonight 10-8. It was another midweek affair in which the pitching was shaky, but the offense did enough to over come it.

The Catamounts touched up starting pitcher Sam Weatherly for 2 first inning runs to jump out to an early lead, but the Tigers quickly responded by pushing 5 across in the 2nd. Jordan Greene had a 2R double and Logan Davidson hit a 2R HR(10) in the inning. W Car would get one back in the 3rd, cutting the lead to 5-3, but Seth Beer would hit a 2R HR(15) in the 4th to push the lead to 7-3. It was a mammoth shot that hit way up on the batters eye in CF.

The Catamounts would not go away however, as they got to Travis Marr for 3 runs in the 5th, and 1 more in the 6th to tie the game at 7. An RBI single from Wylkie, and a 2R double by Chris Williams in the bottom of the 6th would quickly put the Tigers back out front 10-7.

The score would stay that way until the 9th when W Car plated a run, cutting the lead to 10-8, before Owen Griffith finished them off, stranding the tying runs.

Monte and Co have really struggled to find a 4th guy that they can run out there and be consistent starting midweek games. Thankfully, in most of these games, the bats have done enough to compensate for it. Sam Weatherly, Travis Marr, Spencer Strider, and Holt Jones have all made multiple midweek starts this season. All have been up and down in that role. Tonight it was Weatherly getting the nod, and he allowed 3 ER in only 3.2IP, giving up 4H and hitting 2 batters. Marr got the win, improving to 5-1, but he was shaky as well. He allowed 4R(3ER), on 5H and 1BB. Strider came on and pitched a perfect 8th, striking out 2, and Owen Griffith pitched the 9th, earning his first save of the season. It was not pretty though, as he allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk, before rebounding to get a strikeout for the final out, with the tying runs aboard.

Clemson improves to 37-12, while W Car falls to 6-39. Next up is Austin Peay(29-20), as they come to town for a weekend series. Maybe they have a few fans in the stands and we can hear that chant ¨Lets go Pee, Lets Go Pee!¨
