Exceeding most draft expectations, Dorian O’Daniel, Clemson’s SAM linebacker, was selected with the 36th pick of the third round (100th overall). It was great to see his exceptional senior season handsomely rewarded. Most projections had him as a 4-5 round selection, but he snuck in just before that. Our own triplec93 has him going in the 2-4 rounds.
With most of Clemson’s stars coming back, the draft has been fairly unexciting to follow. This of course is great news as we see Clemson’s prime competition lose loads of talent to the NFL draft. Just looking at the playoff teams from last year:
Alabama:
1st Round: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Da’ron Payne, Rashaan Evans, Calvin Ridley
3rd Round: Ronnie Harrison
Georgia:
1st Round: Roquan Smith, Isaiah Wynn, Sony Michel
2nd Round: Nick Chubb
3rd Round: Lorenzo Carter
Oklahoma:
1st Round: Baker Mayfield
3rd Round: Orlando Brown, Mark Andrews
Clemson still has some names to watch in the NFL draft:
- Deon Cain - Update: Selected in 6th Rnd (185) by Colts
- Ray-Ray McCloud - Update: Selected in 6th Rnd (187) by Bills
- Taylor Hearn - Update: UDFA to sign with Panthers
- Ryan Carter - Update: UDFA to sign with Bills
- Van Smith - Update: UDFA to sign with Falcons
- Tyrone Crowder
- Marcus Edmond - Update: UDFA to sign with Chargers
