The Tigers did what they needed to do Tuesday night, picking up a 9-4 win. They wasted no time getting down to business. After Kier Meredith walked to start the bottom of the first(the first of 5 BBs the Tigers would draw in the inning), Logan Davidson hit a laser shot to left to give the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead. Kyle Wylkie would add an RBI double, continuing his hot hitting, and Drew Wharton added a sac fly, giving Clemson a 4-0 lead after 1.
The Owls would crack the scoreboard in the 3rd, plating a couple to cut the lead in half, 4-2. It would not stay that way long however, as once again Wilkie came through, leading off the bottom of the 3rd with a solo HR, his second of the season, and Clemson was up 5-2. Wharton and Meredith both added an RBI each in the inning, extending the Tigers lead to 7-2.
Consecutive walks by starting pitcher Sam Weatherly to start the 5th, and a throwing error by Wilkie, allowed the Owls to add 2 runs and make it a 7-4 ballgame. However, with the help of 2 BBs, the Tigers would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Logan Davidson then drew the Tigers´ 3rd BB of the inning, walking in a run to put the lead at 8-4. The Owls would escape with no more damage, and the score would remain the same until the 7th, when Logan Davidson would hit an RBI single to right field (his 4th RBI), to push the lead to 9-4.
Spencer Strider picks up the win, moving to 4-1 on the season. The freshman went 2.2 innings in relief of Weatherly, allowing a hit, 2 BBs, and striking out 6. Ryan Miller pitched the final 2.1 innings for his 4th save of the season. He did not allow a hit and struck out 1. The Tigers improve to 30-11 on the season and will host Presbyterian College Wednesday night at 6:30pm, as they play 2 midweek games this week.
