Defensive End Lasamuel Davis to Transfer

RS Freshman Lasamuel Davis has decided to transfer from Clemson

NCAA Football: Clemson Spring Game Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

As reported by Tigernet and others, redshirt freshman defensive end Lasamuel Davis has decided to transfer from Clemson. No word yet on where he’s thinking about going.

Lasamuel was a 3-star coming out of high school, ranked the 31st DE overall by ESPN, the 53rd DE overall by 247 and the 33rd DE overall by Rivals when he was signed by Clemson. He was never expected to make any sort of immediate impact for Clemson because of his size (6’4, but only 215 pounds when he signed). He was always a project player, but had a lot potential. Here’s STS’s writeup on Davis back in 2015.

This frees up a scholarship for the 2018 class, but is not good for DE depth. Although there was no guarantee Davis would have been a meaningful contributor on the line this year, Clemson was already thin at DE with the loss of Richard Yeargin for the year and Christian Wilkins moving back to DT. Clemson will have to really rely on Chris Register and redshirt freshman Xavier Kelly to step up and provide depth. Jordan Williams, a true freshman, is another possibility.
