After a hot start, Clemson baseball fell to Duke 6-3 in Louisville. Chase Pinder led the Tigers off with a bottom of the first home run to tie the game up 1-1. Andrew Cox crushed a homer in the second and Logan Davidson added one in the fourth to give Clemson a 3-1 lead. However, that would be all the Tigers would get while the Blue Devils capitalized on Tiger errors to score enough runs en route to a first round victory.
The #5 Tigers are now eliminated from playing for the championship due to the pool play format of the tournament (Thanks, Swofford). Clemson will play again Friday at 11:00 AM against the #4 seed Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavs will take on Duke Thursday at 11:00 AM in their first tournament game. While Clemson cannot win the ACC title now, a win Friday could go a long way in helping Clemson secure a home regional in the NCAA tournament. Friday’s game can be seen on RSN or online via ACC Network Extra.
