Clemson DB Korrin Wiggins to Transfer

NCAA Football: Clemson at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

News broke this morning that Clemson DB Korrin Wiggins will be transferring this summer after he graduates in May. Tigernet reported that Wiggins asked for, and was granted, his release on Thursday.

Wiggins never seemed to recover from his ACL tear in 2015 though there was hope he would finally be at full speed in 2017. But he saw his playing time decrease as the 2016 season went on and it appears that he was going to be passed on the depth chart once again in 2017. That news, coupled with his graduation in May, led Wiggins to decide to transfer. Clemson will try to block his transfer to any ACC school on Clemson schedule this year as well as South Carolina. That decision by the coaching staff is pretty cowardly given that Wiggins will have been at Clemson for 4 years and earned his degree. He is also being passed on the depth chart and isn’t an example of a starter moving on to a better opportunity. Wiggins has decided to appeal the limitation and hopefully he will win.

On the recruiting front, Wiggins departure changes nothing. His scholarship was already going to be available for the class of 2018. This transfer just means that another walk on will get a scholarship for the 2017 season.

Our best wishes to Wiggins wherever he does end up for the 2017 season. Though things didn’t work out at Clemson as well as we all would have liked, he was always an excellent member of the team and will be missed for 2017.
