Clemson - FSU Baseball Preview

Tigers take on the 'Noles in a key ACC series this weekend in Tallahassee.

Monte Lee's 29-5 (13-2 in ACC play) Tigers head to Tallahassee to take on 38th year head coach Mike Martin's 21-14 (7-8 in ACC play) Seminoles in a three game series starting Saturday. While it doesn't quite match football as the most heated Clemson-FSU battle, the baseball series is usually a competitive series between two of the top programs in college baseball. Clemson has taken this series the past two years and will look to do the same this year against a Seminole team that has struggled to meet their lofty top five preseason expectations. Nonetheless, this series will still be a challenge for Monte Lee and Co. as the 'Noles still pose as a formidable and challenging opponent, especially on their home field at Mike Martin Field.

The series will start Saturday where Clemson will feature LHP Charlie Barnes against Seminoles RHP Cole Sands. So far, Charlie Barnes is 4-2 on the year with a 1.51 ERA. FSU's Cole Sands is 5-2 with a 3.53 ERA.

Sunday's matchup will feature RHP Alex Eubanks against the Seminoles' LHP Tyler Holton. Eubanks is currently 5-2 with a 2.92 ERA while FSU's Holton is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA.

Clemson will send out LHP Pat Krall on Monday to finish the series. FSU's starter for this matchup is still to be determined. On the year, Krall is 6-0 with a 3.09 ERA.

The 'Noles are led offensively by outfielder Rhett Aplin and first baseman Quincy Nieporte. On the year, Aplin is hitting .310 with six homers and 23 RBIs while Nieporte is hitting .296 with six homers and 41 RBIs.

First pitch is set for 6 pm on Saturday, 2 pm on Sunday, and 7 pm on Monday. Saturday and Sunday's games can be viewed online on the ACC Network while Monday's game can be seen on ESPNU.
