Clemson (17-15) was named a two-seed in the NIT tournament on Sunday Night. The Tigers were the highest rated RPI team to not make the NCAA tournament’s field of 68.
This is the sixth straight season Clemson has not made the NCAA tournament.
Clemson will play Oakland (24-8) in the tournament’s first round, before facing the winner of Alabama (19-14) vs. Richmond (20-12) – if they advance.
The one seed potentially waiting for Clemson, should they make it to the quarterfinals, will be Iowa. The Hawkeyes (18-14) finished fifth in the Big Ten regular season and were knocked out of the conference tournament in their first game by Indiana.
The other three one seeds are Illinois State (27-6), Cal (21-12) and ACC foe Syracuse (18-14).
The Tigers will host their first, and potentially second, round games at Littlejohn.
Clemson’s first game is scheduled to be played Tuesday night. It can be watched on ESPNU at 8 p.m.
