1st and 10 21 vs. 4-3 Motion Amari Rodgers into the backfield to take the ball behind lead blockers, Feaster lets his man go and Rodgers gets dropped in the backfield. Feaster took a bad angle to his defender and got thrown off almost immediately.
2nd and 17 10 trips vs. 4-2 Four man rush, cover four, Overton one on one to the single receiver side but the pass is broken up. Defender made a fantastic play to punch the ball out. Solid playcall, Bryant took a shot and but for near perfect coverage would have had a first down. Better this than conservative play calling.
3rd and 17 10 vs. 3-2 Nickel and corner blitz from the field side, OL follows the defensive line's slant, RB picks up the nickel but there's no one there to account for the corner blitzing backside and Bryant is sacked. Generally speaking it's unwise to wind up in situations where Bud Foster knows you have to pass. Hyatt and Crowder can't wind up blocking air without someone coming free.

1st and 10 20 vs. 3-3 Ferrell drops off the line pre snap to shade the single receiver side, three man rush, cover four, inside zone handoff, McMillian is able to break a tackle and fall forward for half a dozen yards Putting Ferrell where he is and playing quarters leaves Ferrell, the corner and the safety able to cover Cam Phillips or just confuse the reads on RPO's.

2nd and 4 20 vs. 4-2 Outside zone read, handoff, tackled by Lawrence after a gain of two yards, O'Danial punches the ball out and the Tigers recover Lawrence was able to split a double team and make the tackle from behind the play. Credit to O'Danial for seeing an oppurtunity to take the ball and capitalizing.

1st and 10 11 vs. 4-2 Both ILB's showing blitz, counter handoff to Feaster, follows Richard through the hole for a gain of five VT is pressing the single receiver and showing pressure from their linebackers pre snap
2nd and 5 10 trips vs. 4-2 False start, Hyatt
2nd and 10 10 trips vs. 4-2 QB draw, Bryant cuts behind Feasters block, falls forward Virginia Techs pass rush ran itself out of the play looking for another sack
3rd and 4 10 vs. 4-2 One safety high, slants + curl flat, DL stunt, Bryant takes off running immediately and snakes his way to the first down marker Even with the Hokies sitting in zone Bryant is able to shake enough defenders and fall forward
1st and 10 10 trips vs. 4-2 QB counter, Bryant spins off a tackle, play nearly blown up by both Falcinelli and Feaster's blocking assignment, lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage Bryant is a special runner, Feaster still has major strides to make lead blocking
2nd and 8 11 vs. 4-3 One safety high, LB blitz weak side, inside zone bootleg, Bryant rolls out and throws the ball to Richard who's leaked out to the flats, tackled just short of a first down The linebacker blitzing and the hesitation created by play action left no one to account for Richard in the flats

3rd and 1 11 trips vs. 4-3 under Inside zone read, Bryant keeps and fools everyone, excellent downfield blocking by McCloud and Richard, gain of 24 Packing the box left no one to account for Bryant on the edge, particularly once the only deep safety came up to tackle the running back.

1st and goal 11 trips vs. 4-2 Inside zone seal, handoff immediately met by the strong safety, Feaster falls forward for a gain of two With less field to defend vertically the Hokies can afford to have both safeties playing near the box
2nd and goal 11 trips vs. 4-3 under Bryant rolls out, OL blocks power, Feaster leaks out for a shovel pass, Bryant scrambles out of pressure, turns, stumbles backwards for several yards, turns again, somehow manages to get back to the line of scrimmage and more. This is a shovel pass RPO and Bryant needs to throw the ball to Feaster, throw the out route or throw it out of bounds once the defensive end flies inside. With that said, cue yakety sax.

3rd and goal 11 trips vs. 4-3 under QB counter, Bryant bounces off a defender but is pushed out of bounds before the end zone, Hyatt did a good job drive blocking but a poor kickout by Morris forced the play outside and the Hokies defense is able to recover Harder to move the ball when pursuit is five yards closer, fortunately the Tigers knew they were in four down territory
4th and goal 12 trips vs. 4-3 Both safeties in the box, Feaster falls forward behind Hyatt, Crowder and Cannon Smith Running the ball behind your two best linemen is almost always be a good idea on fourth and goal

1st and 10 20 vs. 3-3 Jet sweep motion, play action, RB releases out of the backfield on a wheel route, four verts, running back doesn't get picked up, tackled by a group of Tigers after a gain of sixteen The jet sweep fake, tight end releasing down the seam and fade route served to take attention off the running back, Lamar has to carry the RB out of the backfield.
1st and 10 20 vs. 4-2 Power handoff, Lamar stonewalls the pulling guard at the line of scrimmage, Wilkins pushes into the backfield and the running back falls into a pile. Incredible effort by Deshawn McClease to get five yards out of this play
2nd and 5 11 vs. 4-2 Cover four, drag route complete underneath but immediately tackled by O'Daniel Clemson played extremely far off the ball but was able to rally before giving up a first down
3rd and 3 10 vs. 4-2 Both middle linebackers show blitz, six man rush, cover one, Cam Phillips shakes his man on a switch route but the pass is defended by Ryan Carter The pass rush forced Jackson to throw and Carter knocked down a pass that wasn't placed as well as it could have been
4th and 3 empty vs. DOD Screen pass thrown to the three receiver side, immediately tackled by Austin Bryant, who was moonlighting as a cornerback, because he can do that #85 is a split tight end, but still, that's a defensive end aligned on the numbers making a TFL on a bubble screen.

1st and 10 20 vs. 4-2 Power read, handoff to Feaster, tackled after a poor block by T.J. Chase You have to block the perimeter if you're going to run the ball outside.
2nd and 7 20 vs. 4-3 under Power handoff, met immediately by the middle and outside linebacker at the line of scrimmage, no gain Hard to run against a 7 man box without reading someone.
3rd and 7 10 vs. 4-2 Cover one, four man rush, seam route to Renfrow is open but he can't come down with the ball in traffic. Surprised he lost that ball but everyone's going to drop a few.

1st and 10 11 vs. 4-2 Roll out to two receiver side, cover four Van Smith and Jalen Williams get burned deep for coming up to play the run too aggressively, gain of thirty five yards Either the nickel can play the run or the safety can but this is a coverage bust. Fortunately Simmons was in position to make a tackle.

1st and 10 20 vs. 4-2 VT quick to the line, play action roll out, throw to the RB in the flats falls incomplete The Hokies are rolling out in an effort to nuetralize Clemson's pass rush and force a young secondary into mistakes.
2nd and 10 11 trips vs. 4-2 Four man rush, cover four, Jackson forced out of the pocket, throws on the run to Phillips, pass off his hands into the air, almost intercepted by both Simmons and Carter The Clemson secondary is so good at stripping receivers of the ball they're stripping each other of the ball
3rd and 10 11 vs. DOD Six man rush, cover one, Phillips comes open on an underneath drag route but is tackled by O'Daniel and Muse Virginia Tech is in four down territory sets up a fourth and manageable.
4th and 4 10 trips vs. DOD Phillips motions outside, runs a screen, six man rush, Henri Murphy is lost on a slant route for a gain of twenty Motion and the attention Phillips demands create a coverage bust, with O'Daniel winding up covering nobody.

Down & Distance Formation Play Anaylsis

1st and 10 20 vs. 4-2 Jet sweep, strung along by the defensive line then tackled in the backfield by O'Daniel. Virginia Tech is doing everything in its power to keep its OL from having to block the Tigers straight up.
2nd and 18 10 vs. DOD Three man rush, cover four, Phillips gets open on a deep curl on the sideline, tackled immediately A route to the flats kept Joseph from being able to help underneath and left K'von Wallace in an unenviable position one on one.
3rd and 5 10 vs. 4-2 Seven men showing blitz, cover zero, two linebackers and a safety blitz the A gap, both defensive ends drop off into shallow zones, Jackson brought down in the backfield The defensive ends dropping put big bodies in the way of any hot routes and leaves the offensive tackles blocking air while three men blitzing the A gap creates an instant overload. There's no one left to account for Simmons.
