2nd & 2 10 shotgun (stacked) vs nickel IZ to Etienne gains 4. Dude trucks everybody.
1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel PA out route to Richard tipped but gains 4. Richard bodied up and protected the ball well.
2nd & 6 11 shotgun vs nickel Jet sweep pop to McCloud gains 2. Edge was set and McCloud had to dive forward before getting killed by the Mike.
3rd & 4 Empty shotgun vs nickel RPO keeper, Settle gets over Crowder's cut block and gets Bryant, loss of 1. Settle just made the athletic play, VT's whole line was on the ground except him.

VT ball, 12:40, VT 6, 10-0 Clemson lead

1st & 10 11 shotgun vs 4-3 Slant incomplete to Phillips. Joseph sat in the throwing lane and got the PBU, big backside pressure from Ferrell.
False start 2nd & 14 10 shotgun vs 4-3 QB draw vs cover 4 run off tackle, gain of 5. Carter comes up strong in run support.
3rd & 9 Empty shotgun vs 4-3 Tunnel screen to Phillips, Carter gets sealed outside but Muse fights through the block to make first contact, gain of 8. Muse was strong against an OLman block and Ferrell helped chase from behind.

1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel IV keeper, hole on the backside and Bryant gets outside, weaves for 12. Great push and seal from Falcinelli to clear Bryant to the second level.
1st & 10 10 shotgun vs nickel RPO keeper, Bryant delays and manipulates the Will into a lane on the edge, gain of 10. Make big Settle run all the way to the edge, lol.
2nd & inches 11 shotgun vs nickel ZR dive to Feaster gains 7. Crowder climbed and Pollard sealed a lane, easy yardage.
1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel Deep skinny post to Higgins vs cover 0 overthrown. Bryant just got too much on it.
2nd & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel Looking for the go route to Cain but the coverage is soft so he checks off and runs up the middle, gain of 8. Glad to see another deep look around midfield against man coverage. Bryant knows he can find the yards on the ground if it's not open.
3rd & 2 11 shotgun vs nickel QB power, hit at the line but Bryant churns and falls forward, got the marker by an inch. Big body QB.
1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel PA jet sweep go route to Cain, again overthrown, Cain had double coverage beaten by 2+ strides. Probably not enough real estate to run that play but I won't complain with the aggression. Just a little too much from Bryant again.
2nd & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel ZR dive to Feaster gains 4. Crowder mauled a dude!
3rd & 6 10 shotgun vs nickel Comeback route to Cain past the marker overthrown high, Bryant has to hit that. No pressure, feet set, but Bryant just airmailed it. Field goal missed.

1st & 10 11 shotgun vs 4-3 Rollout vs cover 3, out route complete just in front of O'Daniel, whose momentum made him miss the tackle, gain of 10. VT just max protected a rollout so that would explain the seemingly lackluster pass rush.
2nd & inches 11 shotgun vs 4-3 IZ gains 4. Joseph got through the line to make contact but VT moved the pile.
1st & 10 Empty shotgun vs 4-3 QB draw vs 3 man rush cover 4, nowhere to go and Joseph fills for no gain. Lawrence fought off a TRIPLE TEAM to force Jackson backward and into Joseph's gap.
2nd & 10 Empty shotgun vs 4-3 Quick hitch vs soft cover 3, Fields missed the tackle and it's a gain of 13. Fields got carried away back-pedaling and didn't react to the hitch quickly enough.
1st & 10 11 shotgun vs 4-3 Power option keeper, Davis fills and makes a thud, gain of 3. Most of VT's runs have been trying to take advantage of Clemson's aggression and they're still having little success.
2nd & 7 11 shotgun vs 4-3 Rollout delayed handoff through the middle gains 19. Wilkins was doubled and couldn't fit off in time to get back in his gap, Joseph got sealed out as he tried to fill.
1st & 10 11 shotgun vs 4-3 PA jet, nobody open vs cover 4, checkdown overthrown incomplete. Max protection vs a 3 man rush.
2nd & 10 Empty shotgun vs 4-3 Jet sweep, O'Daniel flies to the edge and forces inside to Bryant, loss of 1. Clemson's too big to run up its middle; too fast to hit them on the edges.
3rd & 11 11 shotgun vs DIME OF DOOM Straight drop vs cover 4 dime fire, Simmons gets pressure off the edge and forces a checkdown, gain of 2. Field goal good. Simmons is my most exciting secondary prospect in these next few years. Too big to be so fast, it's scary.

Clemson ball, 3:10, Clemson 25, 10-3 Clemson lead

1st & 10 Empty shotgun vs nickel Tunnel screen to McCloud gains 4. Nothing bad happened on a screen pass!
2nd & 5 11 shotgun vs nickel PA post route to Cain vs cover 0, wide open, Cain cuts outside after the catch, gain of 35. This is too easy for Bryant and I don't understand the defensive play call here. Nonsensical.

1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel ZR dive to Fuller gains 5. Hearn sealed a huge lane for Fuller, who then decided to bowl through Edmunds the hard way.
2nd & 5 11 shotgun vs nickel Cover 0 LB bullets forces Bryant up the middle immediately to avoid the sack, fancy footwork gets him 9 yards. This is purely athleticism.

1st & 10 11 shotgun vs nickel Cover 0 JAILBREAK, out route to Cain is just too easy, Cain gets free again and is dragged down at the 1. Man to man pressure against Bryant is not smart. You have to confuse him either with disguising the pressure or disguising the zone coverage. Again, Foster is making this too easy on an inexperienced QB who prefers straightforward man.

Fuller punches it in on the next play, VT eventually misses a field goal to end the half.
