From walk on to Clemson Tigers legend, wide receiver Hunter Renfrow capped an incredible career by catching a two-yard touchdown pass from Deshuan Watson with one second remaining to topple the reigning national champion Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday evening in Phoenix for a 35-31 win.
The senior finished the game with 10 catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns, including a big six-yard catch to convert 3rd and 3 from the Alabama 32-yard line on the game-winning drive.
The final play capped a huge drive by Clemson that included some incredible throws and catches by Watson and his corps of pass catchers. Watson finished his own remarkable performance by completing 36-of-56 passes for 420 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
He included a big touchdown run late in the first half.
After a huge Mike Williams catch set up the touchdown to narrow the Alabama lead to 31-28 late in the fourth quarter, Williams made another huge play to set up the game-winning play, high pointing the football for a 24-yard gain.
Williams finished the game with eight catches for 94 yards.
His catch earlier was just as impressive.
Then it was time for tight end Jordan Leggett to once again made an impact, gaining 17 yards to get inside the Crimson Tide 10-yard line.
In the end, the Tigers scored 21 points in the fourth quarter for the improbable comeback.
What a finish.
