After starting off the first week of college football with multiple marquee games, this week should be quieter as most teams face cupcakes.

As a note, please remember to make your predictions at the link below. You are more than welcome to comment with your predictions as well, but I can only score what shows up in the form. The form is a bit different this week, which should make it a bit easier to grade. It will ask you who you think will win, and then it will ask you how many points you think each team will score in the contest. It should be straightforward, but let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Now, to the games! Good games were harder to come by, but here are your 5 matchups to predict:

Troy at #2 Clemson

Vegas says: -35.5 Clemson

Revan says: 56 - 17 Clemson

Clemson is a wee bit favored here. After a disappointing performance last week, I think Clemson will get back on track and put up some points and allow backups a chance for valuable game experience. Is 56 too low? Could we see them put up 70 or so to send a message? Gosh, I hope so.

Virginia Tech at #17 Tennessee (“Neutral” site)

Vegas says: -11.5 Tennessee

Revan says: 30 - 17 Tennessee

This game became a lot more interesting after Tennessee barely beat App State and dropped out of the top ten to #17 after winning. Still, the Hokies struggled against Liberty in their first game. Tennessee should have more talent and home field advantage even though the game is at a neutral site (Bristol, Tennessee). I don’t want to pick Tennessee any more than you do, but it’s the smart choice. The heart wants the Hokies but my brain is telling me Vols. I will be rooting for the Hokie upset, though.

Penn State at Pittsburgh

Vegas says: -5.5 Pittsburgh

Revan says: 24-20 Pittsburgh

This is probably the the most compelling match of the week. Hey, Pitt is supposed to be good this year. They’re a trendy pick for the coastal, though my money would be on Miami. I think they get the job done here in a close one.

South Carolina at Mississippi State

Vegas says: -6.5 Mississippi State

Revan says: 35-24 Mississippi State

Yes, yes, we are taking a look at our little brothers down the road in famously hot Columbia. Just a real quality win over fearsome Commodores last week for South Carolina. You almost have to be more impressed by Mississippi State’s close loss to Alabama... wait what? They lost to SOUTHERN ALABAMA? Oh boy. But seriously, folks, These are not good teams. Which team is going to fail less? On the road against what was supposed to be a decent team, I’m going with the cowbell people.

BYU at Utah

Vegas says: -3 Utah

Revan says: 28-20 BYU

Let’s take a visit to the West Coast and the Holy War! There’s going to be some hot Mormon on Mormon action in Utah this weekend and we’re all invited to watch! Vegas gives the slight edge to the Utes here, and they are playing at home... but not so fast my friends, I’m taking BYU in a slight upset! I know I feel strongly about this pick because I flipped a coin (best 2 out of 3!) to make it.
