Clemson vs Auburn: Who’s the real “Tigers” of the South?

Clemson and Auburn are set to showdown September 3rd at Jordan-Hare stadium.

Lets take a look into the future...

Tigers commit Tee Higgins displayed his rare athleticism this past Friday in a game vs Dobyns-Bennett.

This past week, 10 of ESPN’s college football experts made their preseason college football playoff selections. 8 of the 10 had Clemson in their playoff.

ESPN also released their 2016 preseason All-American team. The Tigers featured the second most players from any team with 3, Deshaun Watson and Mike Williams on offense, and Carlos Watkins on defense.

Former Tigers impress

Former Clemson wide receiver Adam Humphries performed well in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers preseason game vs the Browns. Humphries had 2 catches for 39 yards, along with a 73 yard punt return touchdown.

Mackensie Alexander and Jayron Kearse each recorded interceptions in the Vikings preseason game vs the San Diego Chargers. This marks the second time that the pair has recorded interceptions in the same game.

Leading up to Auburn

Gus Malzahn named Sean White (RSo) Auburn’s starting quarterback. White beat out the likes of Jeremy Johnson (Sr) and transfer John Franklin III (RJr).

Auburn defensive back Stephen Roberts was arrested this past week for attempting to elude law enforcement and carrying a pistol without a permit. Roberts, a junior, is expected to be a major contributor on defense this season. At this point in time Roberts has not received any punishment from the school or the team.

Jordan-Hare is going to be rocking when the Clemson Tigers come to town. Auburn is close to selling out its 87,451 seat stadium for their Sept. 3rd showdown.

Around the ACC

Florida State quarterback Sean Maguire returned to practice last Friday just two weeks removed from foot surgery. Maguire was originally expected to miss up to four weeks. Despite Maguire’s status, Deondre Francois remains the starter for the Seminoles week one battle with 11th ranked Ole Miss.

Miami recently dismissed two of its best defensive players in Al-Quadin Muhammad and Jermaine Grace. The two were being investigated by the NCAA for their involvement in a luxury car rental incident.

Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk will miss the entire 2016 season after injuring his Achilles. When healthy Sirk proved to be an impact player, leading the Blue Devils in rushing and passing in 2015. Unfortunately, Sirk was never able to reach his full potential due to injuries throughout his Duke career.

Last seasons Miami-Duke game appeared to be one for the ages, with the Hurricanes manufacturing an improbable touchdown as time expired. However, after the game the ACC gave the play a second look and found that the touchdown should not have stood.

To ensure that a call never gets missed again, the ACC will use collaborative replay this season.
