Jamie Skalski of Newman, GA signed is letter of intent Wednesday and officially joined the Clemson Family. Skalski will likely redshirt but can provide some quality depth in the future. On film, I see an aggressive hitter and blitzer who can cause havoc lined up on the line of scrimmage. He uses his hands well to keep blockers off his body, and will need to further enhance his technique so he isn't victimized by average agility.
Skalski was recruited by Brent Venables out of Newman, Georgia, and is considered a 3-star by 247. He is currently listed as 6'1" and weighs 225 pounds. Ideally he can add some weight over the next year, especially if he redshirts, and be able to contribute going forward. If Skalski doesn't redshirt, it is likely an indication of just how bad our depth at LB is this year.
QT's Take:
A Brent Venables kind of linebacker, no? Should outperform recruiting rankings and expectations. Tough kid. Loves contact. It sounds cliche but think of Ben Boulware with a little more height. Skalski does need to improve foot speed and make gains in overall speed, but as we have said with other LB takes--this system requires your LBs to accelerate downhill and plug gaps. Skalski fits the bill as an attacking, violent player.
He committed early on signing day last year and never made any ripples. He is likely to redshirt unless there are injuries.
