Cordarrian Richardson De-commits from Clemson Tigers

Clemson lost the commitment of 4* RB Cordarrian Richardson today per his announcement on Twitter. I can tell you that this was not entirely out of left field and the staff knew this could be a possibility.

This has nothing to do with depth chart or Richardson not being a good enough prospect. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Richardson is the big bruising back that Clemson will need with the departure of Gallman to the NFL. He would have been a part of the RB rotation quickly and was one of the more underrated pieces in this class. Ultimately this unfortunately has a lot to do with Trezevant High School. I’ll just leave it at that.

Where will Clemson go from here? Next month Clemson will put the full court press on a few other RB prospects. Right now D’Andre Swift will be the name everyone is talking about, but UGA would have to land Cam Akers for that to really be a possibility. Swift has talked about a visit, but it remains to be seen whether or not that will come to fruition.

As of this moment, I see Clemson exploring other options or pocketing the scholarship for 2018. Clemson could get back into it with Swift, but it would take a lot of work. I think Penn State is a much more likely destination if a de-commitment happens. I also know that Clemson’s staff is high on Fort Meyers, FL RB Darrian Felix (5’11, 194). I’m not high on that option. I’d rather spend the scholarship on someone in the 2018 class or use it on a different position group entirely.
