STS Prediction Contest - Week 8 Results

It’s the STS Prediction Contest recap and if you went against the grain this week you did not do so well.

Poor Louisville. Dominates NC State, but Houston lost to SMU (I see you Chad Morris), which means Louisville is not going to have a chance to showcase itself against a top-ranked opponent the rest of this season unless something screwy happens in the Atlantic.

Ohio State was your stunning upset of the week. Regarding our matchups though, there were really no surprises or upsets to be had, meaning scores were high this week.

Week 8 Matchups

Actual score: 33-14 Alabama

My pick: 38-28 Alabama

Average Alabama Points Prediction (Mean): 37.10

Average A&M Points Prediction (Mean): 24.95

Is anyone really going to pick against Alabama the rest of this year? It’s ‘Bama and everyone else this year. One wonders if Clemson really missed its chance last year. I’d say last year’s team going against last year’s ‘Bama team again has a much better chance of winning than our team this year against ‘Bama this year.

Actual score: 42-28 Navy

My pick: 28-21 Navy

Average Memphis Points Prediction (Mean): 25.42

Average Navy Points Prediction (Mean): 28.54

How about our armed forces? Pretty good, yeah? Also, the Navy’s football team is not bad. Unfortunately for Navy, Houston’s collapse makes a NY6 bowl tough. It could still happen, though. I mean, college football is nuts. It’s really too bad Notre Dame is awful this year. They would have been Navy’s other chance to impress. Now, if they win out, it could certainly still happen. They just need a looooot of help.

Actual score: 34-10 WVU

My pick: 35-28 WVU

Average TCU Points Prediction (Mean): 30.75

Average WVU Points Prediction (Mean): 36.34

Wow, hey, I guess I need to watch a WVU game at some point. I uh, guess they are pretty good? Does anyone know anything about these guys?

They’ve got a tough (?) road contest this week against Oklahoma State.

Actual score: 37-16

My pick: 30-24 VT

Average Miami Points Prediction (Mean): 23.85

Average VT Points Prediction (Mean): 27.53

Isn’t Miami’s QB supposed to be a top QB pick in the draft this year? Guess he’ll be another in a long line of mediocre college QB’s drafted early due to measurables and potential. I’m sure that will go well.

Also, originally I wasn’t going to pick this game. At the last second I decided to put this game in because I had too many SEC games (the Auburn game was originally in this slot) but in doing so I forgot that this game was on Thursday. There’s another interesting game on Thursday this week (Pitt and VT), but it’s probably not going to be in the contest since I think it’s difficult for people to put their picks in same-day.

Uhhh oops

Actual score: 38-21 LSU

My pick: 31- 28 LSU

Average Ole Miss Points Prediction (Mean): 27.42

Average LSU Points Prediction (Mean): 27.76

Let’s not talk about how the graph got screwed up by my carelessness. Instead, let’s talk about how bad Ole Miss is and how much benefit of the doubt they got from the voters. It’s really ridiculous when you think about it. Penn State goes out there and beats the #2 team in the country and only has 2 losses yet they’re barely ranked. Makes sense.

Standings

Here are the overall top scorers after eight weeks:

RIGGED. RIGGED I SAY.

And here are the weekly top scorers for this week:

The average score this week was 23.24, which is one of the highest average scores this year, if not the highest. The games were... predictable.
