This was supposed to be a blowout for Alabama, but the Clemson tigers missed the memo. Just minutes after the Tigers tied the game after an amazing 31 yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow, Clemson grabbed the lead with another strike to Renfrow, giving the Tigers a 14-7 lead as the first quarter ended.
Watson was dealing on the drive, which started after Alabama missed a field goal. Back to back 20+ yard completions by Watson (to Jordan Leggett and Charone Peake) put Clemson in prime territory to grab the lead, but the drive threatened to stall before the quarter ended. Instead, Watson found Renfrow again near the back of the end zone, putting he ball exactly where it needed to be.
The Tigers will still need a good answer for Henry and Alabama's powerful rushing attack, but you couldn't have written a better first quarter for Clemson, all things considered. Can they keep it up?
