Is it just me, or is the sun shining a little brighter today? Does the air smell a little cleaner? Does life just taste a little sweeter? The first Saturday of the college football season has finally dawned! After months of watching and rewatching the 2014 USuCk and Oklahoma games on YouTube, we finally get to see our Tigers in live action again. We've raised all the questions and made all the predictions. Now it's time to get some answers and, hopefully, live up to expectations.
If you're like me, stuck in a crappy little midwestern town, far, far away from the sparkling waters of Lake Hartwell, unable to make the pilgrimage across the Blue Ridge and down into the Promised Land, here's how you can still watch the live GT warm-up season opener against Wofford:
Wofford at #12 Clemson

Like us, many teams are starting out with cupcakes. For most, that means trying to raise player confidence and fanbase satisfaction by running up the score. For others, that means jumping out to a quick lead and then giving the reserves some much needed game experience. For a few, that means sweating out an opponent that didn't get the memo about being an "easy win." Despite the buffet of boring match-ups, there are a few games this weekend that are intriguing. Here are a few I will try to look in on:
Louisville at #6 Auburn (in the Georgia Dome)
Kickoff at 3:30 EST
TV: CBS
The Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game is routinely one of the best games of the opening weekend. This year is no exception. On one sideline we have fellow ACC Atlantic member Louisville. They are looking to make a statement against a highly ranked SEC foe. Most Clemson fans are already feeling uneasy about our trip up to the Ville in a few weeks. If the Cards win this one, we're really going to have a hard time sleeping at night. On the other sideline is our favorite school to recruit against, Clemson-West. The War-Tiger-Eagles are in the weird position of being the favorites to win the SEC, yet picked to only finish second in their division. You know the SEC is the best conference in the nation when the second best team in the West is the best team in the whole conference... My head hurts now. Anyhow, there seems to be equal parts excitement and trepidation over this game and this whole season among Auburn fans. A win against Louisville won't quell those worries completely, but it would surely help. My guess is that Auburn is probably overrated, but Louisville's still outgunned in this one: AUB 31 - LOU 17.
Virginia at #13 UCLA
Kickoff at 3:30 EST
TV: Fox
Virginia is another ACC school with a chance for a signature out of conference win on opening weekend. They really should have beat UCLA last year, but turnovers killed them. The disappointing opener led to a disappointing year. Now, the Cavs are likely playing for Mike London's job. They start with the bane of JayIngles existence, the UCLA Bruins. UCLA is coming off a #10 finish from last year, but lost Brett Hundley to the NFL and are now starting a true freshman not named Deshaun Watson or Jameis Winston. Like AUB v. LOU, I think UCLA is probably overrated, but UVA doesn't have enough to overcome the jet lag: UCLA 27 - UVA 20.
#15 Arizona State at Texas A&M
Kickoff at 7:00 EST
TV: ESPN
I'm going to take a peak at this one just to get a look at Arizona State. Despite being preseason number fifteen, ASU is a sexy pick to win the Pac-12 and make the playoff. The Sun Devils are coming off their first back-to-back ten win seasons since the early 70s. Their offense was potent last year and is projected to be even better in 2015. aTm, on the other hand, is picked to finish 6th... in their division. They came down pretty hard off their Johnny Football high and have yet to recover. This year doesn't seem like the year for a rebound either. With ASU to start and #18 Arkansas, #3 Alabama, #17 Ole Miss, #6 Auburn, and #14 LSU on the schedule, just making a bowl game should be considered a successful year in College Station. I think this is going to be a rough start to a rough year for the Aggies: ASU 48 - aTm 24.
Texas at #11 Notre Dame
Kickoff: 7:30 EST
TV: NBC
This one is on here for Ryan Kantor. I know he'll be watching his second favorite "ACC team" in action. It'll be interesting to see if Charlie Strong has put out the dumpster fire that was the end of the Mack Brown era at Texas. There's, arguably, no place in college football where winning should be easier. Texas has more resources and a better in-state talent pool than just about anyone. Despite their desire to return to the glory days, the UT faithful need to realize that rebuilding could take a couple years. On the other hand, the Irish have been on the verge of greatness for a few years now. Notre Dame was riding high going into Tallahassee last year, but the wheels came off down the stretch. The bowl win versus LSU did little to sooth the sting of a disappointing year. Despite the terrible end to last year, the pollsters have Notre Dame ranked pretty high already. I'll be watching to see if the Golden Domers are really worth fearing. In a running theme here, I think Notre Dame is slightly overrated at #11, but Texas is still not very good. ND 30 - TEX 16.
#20 Wisconsin at #3 Alabama (in the Jerry Dome, Arlington, TX)
Kickoff: 8:00 EST
TV: ABC
The opening weekend's only match-up of ranked teams is also its most intriguing to me. Wisconsin had an inexplicable loss to Northwestern and were embarrassed by Ohio St. in the Big 10(ish) championship game last year. Other than those two games, however, they were pretty impressive. However, they lose consensus All-American, Doak Campbell Award winning, Heisman trophy finalist Melvin Gordon. Can Corey Clement really fill those cleats? Many think he can. Alabama has still not named a starter at QB. I don't think that matters as much as others do, but apparently it's obligatory to mention it in any college football article written this week. They are similar to Wisconsin in that they consistently have a dominate offensive line and continue to recruit and develop NFL caliber running backs. Even with the questions at QB, Saban has built Bama into a program that is top 5 until proven otherwise. It'll be a slugfest, but the Tide come out on top: Bama 27 - UW 23.
#1 Ohio State at Virginia Tech
Kickoff: 8:00 EST
TV: ESPN
Ohio State is the first ever consensus number one in AP poll history. That makes me believe that they almost certainly won't win the title again this year. My distrust of preseason polls has been stated many times in this post already, but ESPN backed me up with an interesting graphic during the Battle of the Carolinas. Of the ten teams that have been picked preseason number one by the highest percentage of AP writers, none have gone on to win the championship. Can the Buckeyes buck that trend? It's hard to see any weaknesses on their team at this point. The Hokies, on the other hand, have been struggling. Most people expect them to be better this year than they were last, when they were the only team to beat OSU. Can they catch lightning in a bottle again? Being in Blacksburg after dark gives them an a slight edge, but Ohio State is just too good. They might not make it through the whole season unscathed, but they should make it out of Virginia with an easy win: OSU 41 - VT 17.
Snobby Carolina let us down, coming up short against Redneck Carolina. Thanks a lot. Minnesota gave TCU a lot more than I expected. Where was that explosive offense from last year? The Thursday night games were fun. Let's hope a few of these other games give us something to talk about as well.
