“Horowitz Award for Accuracy” Week 3 Update

The bye week seems like the appropriate time to get everybody caught up on their prognostications.

Did somebody on STS say we were going to lose by 20 points?
Did somebody on STS say we were going to lose by 20 points?
Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

We had a flurry of predictions for the Louisville game, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to update the "Horowitz Award For Accuracy" standings.

The "Horowitz Award" is the cumulative year-long challenge that tracks your opinions and predictions in order to find the STS poster or writer that best deserves to pat themselves on the back for their undisputed genius.

For the rules, scoring system, and past results, you may click here.

New this time around are actual game predictions.  Since we are still in the first year of the "Horowitz Award," these game predictions are basically being scored on a 4 to -4 scale determined by the accuracy and amount of detail and risk each prediction within the game provides. The more detail and risk, the higher the points you could score. The less detail and risk, the lower points you can score.

Each prediction is treated separately. For example, if your prediction was "Louisville will win by 10 but Wayne Gallman will get 100 yards," you would lose 3 points for the "Louisville win" and gain 3 points right back for the "Gallman gets 100" prediction.

However, there is no set scale for points. The points giveth and taketh away are based on the individual prediction moreso than anything else.

Ok, let's get to the predictions that have matured since the last update and then view the standings 3 weeks into the season.

Mark this down, Kraken

Nyles Pinckney commits to Clemson.

by redduppen on Aug 12, 2015 | 11:59 AM reply rec flag actions

He did commit, 50/50 shot, +2

"you haven't heard a peep about this (B.J. Goodson playing Sam LB) in the media but it's probably going to happen" The Kraken,  September 2, 2015

and it did...on the first defensive play of the season...3 Horowitz points.

Here's one for you Kraken.

At least one true freshman offensive lineman will start at least one game in 2015.

by ufTiger on Mar 27, 2015 | 5:33 PM reply rec flag actions

It was likely but, Hyatt started game one and you were first...3 points

I predicted on this Isaiah Battle article that he'd be picked at least 6th or 7th in the supplemental
draft. I didn't say MTD though...

by Schroedinger's Tiger on Aug 4, 2015 | 4:50 PM reply rec flag actions

Correct...3 points

I'll go the other way, Kraken MTD

My first game as a student at UNC will be the exact same as my last game as a Clemson student,

a win over South Carolina

by damedsz on Aug 7, 2015 | 10:07 PM up reply rec flag actions

Nope...-2 points.  UNC did outplay SC though.

I wish this would occur

but South Carolina will not lose to UNC. Kraken, MTD.

by ggggmen08 on Aug 5, 2015 | 12:43 PM up reply rec flag actions

Correct...2 points

Absolutely, Cox is a legit talent

Him in their system will probably break off some uncomfortably
long runs early, especially once our 2's get in the game

Kraken MTD, App State runs for at least 150 and breaks off 3, 10+ yard runs on us

by Metal Tiger on Aug 26, 2015 | 2:49 PM up reply rec flag actions

Correct, App St. rushed for 200 yards. 3 points.  App St. also had more than three 10 yard runs...1 point.  Cox rushed for 100 yards, mostly on our 2s, just not early. push 0 points

Oh, almost forgot, MTD Kraken

If Clemson is up by at least 24 in the 4th quarter against Wofford, at least 1 Davis twin will get to play on defense.

by PenthouseTiger on Aug 27, 2015 | 2:28 PM up reply rec flag actions

Very likely scenario there. Correct...1 point

And this is how I see us losing to Louisville

By a missed FG

Kracken Mark It Down.

by Lawtonfunk on Aug 12, 2015 | 10:44 AM up reply rec flag actions

Incorrect, Huegel came through!  -2 points

Kraken MTD: Bolin will start against us and we will win by 4+ points. (Louisville)

by Schroedinger's Tiger on Sep 13, 2015 | 11:20 AM up reply rec flag actions

Bolin was the favorite to start and did start against us, +1.  We won by 3 points...that's a push to me, 0 points.

I just feel this game will be Clemson by 14-17 points.  Quarterback matters and Clemson has a decided

advantage with #4.

C_Craft 9/16/15

Nope, Watson struggled and it was a 3 point game. -3 points.

Clemson will beat the Cardinals, mark it down.

Ryan Kantor, 9/14/15

Correctly picked the 5 point favorite to win, 1 point

[GULP] Kraken...MTD

Clemson: 35

Louisville: 23

This is my first prediction. Laugh and mock accordingly

by Clemson Caniac on Sep 13, 2015 | 4:00 PM up reply rec flag actions

Haha?, -2 points

MTD Kraken

I say Clemson gets an EASY win (vs. Louisville), which I define as winning by 10+ points OR going in to the 4th

quarter up by 14+ and getting the win.

by The Argonaut on Sep 13, 2015 | 6:37 PM up reply rec flag actions

Clarification

Being up by 14+ sometime after the 4th quarter starts. Say Clemson is up by 7, gets a touchdown at the start of

the 4th to go up 14, then only has to keep UL from scoring 2 TDs - that's still an "easy" win in my mind.

by The Argonaut on Sep 13, 2015 | 6:44 PM up reply rec flag actions

Incorrect. Close, hard fought game, -2

Not gonna lie ...

I'm not so sure why so many people seem so nervous about Louisville.
We beat them with a piss poor offensive performance last year and they
aren't nearly the team they were last year. Besides, I believe Dabo has shown that he has a
pretty good record for taking care of business against unranked opponents. Kraken MTD,
Clemson wins 38-17.

by cualum2012 on Sep 15, 2015 | 12:57 PM reply rec flag actions

I guess you see why now.  -3 for predicting we would more than double their score

I'll take Clemson 21-17. I really want to say 28-17,
but I see us struggling up there.

by mdlusk on Sep 16, 2015 | 5:21 AM up reply rec flag actions

The intent of this post is correct and the score is only one point off. Excellent call. 4 points.

Kraken, MTD

Clemson covers in Louisville (spread @kickoff).

I think this game is close going into the 3rd quarter, but Clemson pulls away as Louisville
gets desperate and starts trying to throw more, leading to a few key INTs that seal the deal.

by Kurtlikevonnegut on Sep 13, 2015 | 11:36 AM up reply rec flag actions

Clemson did not cover. -2 points, The game was close going into the 3Q, +1.  There were two late INTs, not three, and the one on the Hail Mary sealed the deal but should've been knocked down. Push 0 points.

5) App State will lead in the game at some point vs Clemson

by Metal Tiger on Aug 5, 2015 | 3:42 PM reply rec flag actions

Didn't happen but you're out on a limb there. Only -1 point

Great Stuff

MTD Kraken. Even if Louisville gives 104%, they won't score more than a touchdown
and a field goal on Clemson's starters.

by UGATiger on Sep 17, 2015 | 3:45 PM reply rec (4) flag actions

It's true...3 points.  The last TD was on the kickoff team.

"Appalachian State is going to test us."

TheKraken, July, 2014.  There was the 1Q, but then there was the 2Q. -3 points

We'll have more Freshman in our two deep next year than we have had in many years.

TheKraken, January 2015 +2 points

MTD

We beat Louisville by 20+

I think Louisville is really only a 6-6 type team this year and we'll look like world
beaters against them this Thursday. ND loses to the bees this week

by NoVATiger13 on Sep 14, 2015 | 9:55 AM reply rec (2) flag actions

Ouch! -4 for the worst UL score prediction out there.  -2 for the ND results.

I will go out on a limb

At least one Sakerlina football player or recruit will get arrested in the next 6 months. Mark that shit down, Kraken.

by CU 1993 on Mar 28, 2015 | 7:33 PM reply rec flag actions

That seems like a pretty safe bet, but I can't find an arrest online.  -2 points

I agree. As usual, Notre Dame is WAY overrated. GT will beat ND.

Notre Dame should have dropped in the rankings.

by RazzMcTazz on Sep 13, 2015 | 5:11 PM up reply rec flag actions

ND beat GT and appears to be underrated if anything and should not have dropped in the rankings. . -3 points

QT is holding strong in 1st place as he was back in late July.  There is a sizeable 4 point gap between him and everybody else right now. Of course, we are still 7 months away from naming a winner so a lot is going to change.

There is going to be an award for last place, I just don't know what it should be called. I'm very open to suggestion on what that award for futility should be called.
