According to multiple sources, Clemson received a commitment today from Scott Spencer of the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Virginia. Although cliche, "under the radar" would certainly be an accurate way to describe Spencer, whom Rivals lists as a 3-star prospect but ESPN has apparently never even heard of.
Spencer appears to be a late bloomer who projected as a mid-major talent early on but certainly looks like a high-major player on his latest tape.
He is billed as a shooter, but he also shows a willingness to drive aggressively to the basket and hammers down some ferocious dunks in the above video. He obviously will need to add a good bit of muscle at 6'6", 185 lbs., and he will probably have some work to do on the defensive end, but not many Clemson fans will argue with bringing in a three-point shooter right now.
Spencer is probably a small forward at the moment, but if he can improve his ball-handling, it would be great if the Tigers could run a 6'6" kid out there at the shooting guard spot at some point down the road.
His offer sheet certainly isn't eye-popping, but it does include Kansas State, Richmond and Washington - all respectable programs, if nothing else.
Spencer is Clemson's first commitment for the class of 2016.
