Clemson Football Podcast: Syracuse Game Recap

New, 10 comments

For the 5th straight season, Clemson has posted 10 regular season wins. While this one was costly — with injuries reported to starters Mackensie Alexander, Mitch Hyatt, and Wayne Gallman — Clemson did enough to escape Syracuse with a win. Credit the leadership and playmaking ability of Heisman candidate Deshaun Watson.

Playcalling, execution & focus (drops, turnovers, out of bounds catches), and untimely substitutions were questioned early and often on #ClemsonTwitter, and rightfully so. However, on a day where 4 of the Top 10 fell, and others struggled in victory against lesser foes (lookin' at you, creepy OK State mascot dude), Dabo's message of savoring every win rings true. This is cold comfort for a team and fanbase with loftier expectations and goals.

The polls (Coaches' and AP) held Clemson at #1, and we'll see if the CFP committee follows suit when their 3rd set of rankings are released on Tuesday.

During our recap show, we discuss whether Clemson's earned the distinction of top team in the country, and what's limiting the Tigers from reaching their ceiling as a team. A main focus is examining what's happening with the defense, amidst lackluster performances in our last 2 road games.
