The AP released its preseason college football poll Sunday, and Clemson came in at No. 16 in the rankings. The Tigers were also ranked 16th in the first USA Today poll.
The 16 spot seems to be basically a consensus for Clemson, as other services have slotted the Tigers there as well.
Not surprisingly, Florida State topped the opening poll, collecting 57 of a possible 60 first-place votes.
The rankings very much mirror the coaches poll, with flip-flops of Oregon and Oklahoma (in the 3 and 4 spots) and Ohio State and Auburn (5 and 6 spots) being the only differences within the top 17.
Clemson's two SEC opponents — South Carolina and Georgia — rank 9th and 12th, respectively.
Again, we see North Carolina continue to boggle the mind by ranking in the top 25 despite being picked to finish fourth in the ACC's Coastal Division.
