Very disheartening at the time to see Deshaun Watson's injury. I had a sick feeling in my stomach both for Deshaun and the immediate future of the program. I was worried that we would be without him for a while and that we would have unsteady play at the quarterback position for the near future. The mood of all Clemson fans went up significantly when we found out that luckily it was only an LCL sprain and that his status was day to day. I say we hold Deshaun out until next week so we have a better chance to win against the chickens and start Nick Schuessler this weekend to see what he can do. We only got a small sample size of Schuessler this weekend but he did what Cole Stoudt couldn't do which was complete his passes....not only complete passes but complete passes down the field and to his own teammates.
Here are this week's news and links...
Tigers Sign Top-10 Class - Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site
Here's a baseball early signing period link. It's much harder to follow baseball recruiting compared to basketball and football with the limited recruiting services as well as you will never know who will make it to campus until closer to the end of next Summer. Looks like the coaching staff has focused heavily on recruiting right handed pitching after landing a number of left handed pitchers in the last recruiting class. Also looks like we have a couple of strong options to replace Tyler Krieger at shortstop if he gets drafted high enough to leave after this coming season. However, I would be surprised if both Cornelius Randolph and Jalen Miller make it to campus. It's also encouraging to see Coach LeCroy focus more on recruiting talent from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia which is where we should be recruiting heavily. The good recruiting classes that Coach LeCroy has been putting together hopefully show dividends in the future and this might possibly be one of his best recruiting classes yet(depending on who actually enrolls).
Tigers Ink Pair of Prospects - Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site
Brad Brownell and Co. were able to sign two good ones in the early signing period. I expect them to try to land one more recruit for the 2015 recruiting class after missing out on Ebuka Izunda and Tevin Mack last week.
The Essence of Loyalty - Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site
Very nice write-up about Rod Hall's journey to being the starting point guard and team leader for the Clemson Basketball program. Says a lot about the commitment that Rod Hall has to Clemson even after most of his teammates had left and more importantly his main recruiter had left the program. Glad to see someone this selfless as the team leader and as someone that younger players in the program can look up to.
#STRecruiting: Clemson and USC make the early cut with Georgia defensive lineman
This could be another recruiting battle brewing with the coots...Looks like we have a while though until he makes a decision. The coaching staff continues to try to add depth to a defensive line losing six players after this year.
#STRecruiting: Huggins says Georgia could be only official visit he takes
One of Dabo and Co.'s last remaining targets for the 2015 class....Huggins plans to early enroll so it should be soon when he makes a decision. Let's see if Dabo can close on this big target. As flawed a coach as he is, it is never really easy to recruit against Mark Richt. I don't really read much into Georgia being Huggins' only visit but he has shown a lot of interest in Georgia over his recruitment. It's hard to tell where he is more likely to commit to with the family and local ties to Clemson and the interest in the Bulldogs.
