Weekly Clemson News and Recruiting Links

A weekly roundup of news around the Clemson sports community...

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Like almost any other Clemson student/fan I was irritated by the game overall last Thursday until the fourth quarter. Now that we are finally playing a top 25 team again it is about time we get our quarterback back. Cole Stoudt did a good job overall holding down the fort while DW was out but he cannot be starting for us anymore with his erratic play....Especially against a team that we will have to put up a lot of points against.

Now to this week's news and links....

Meet the rookie who makes the awful 76ers worth watching - SBNation.com

K.J. is already making highlight reel plays in the first few games of his career. I'm not a fan of any NBA team so the only thing I will root for when it comes to the NBA is seeing K.J. McDaniels make insane plays along with hopefully having a successful career. This is really the only good thing for 76ers fans to watch from their pathetic team.

Clemson Defense Suffocates Anderson, 62-36 - Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

The first glimpse of what to expect from the basketball program this coming season(albeit it was a scrimmage against Anderson). I expect us to be good defensively and I expect multiple players to help replace the scoring production of K.J. McDaniels including Nnoko and Blossomgame. Grantham also showed his scoring potential....I expect him to progress as a legitimate scoring threat as the season moves along. I'm looking for multiple guys to become high scorers instead of one guy being the main scorer(K.J.) like last year.

For Bryant, another (career) day, another TD - Orange and White Story

Another former Tiger related link....Martavis Bryant has been a pleasant surprise and continues to put up numbers in the limited amount of games he has played this year. Bryant continues to improve each week and had his best game on Sunday in a loss to the Jets. It's hard for me to say this as a Ravens fan but as a Clemson student I look forward to seeing Tay continue to put up more yards and points. It's proud for us Clemson students/fans/alumni to see three receivers(Nuk, Sammy, Martavis) tearing up NFL secondaries this year... even with mediocre quarterback play(see Nuk and Sammy).

Clemson announces 2015 baseball schedule - Post and Courier

Schedule has been released for Jack Leggett's crew this coming season... With parity in College Baseball every season it is hard to tell which series, aside from a few, will be significant challenges for JackLeg and Co. this coming season. But based on how the team has played the past few years I don't feel many of these games will come easy.

Clemson's ground game finding footing - Orange and White Story

The running game still has a long way to go but I've been encouraged with what I've seen the past few games. We have the talent at running back but the main problem has been overall blocking. It has also been obvious that Wayne Gallman is the best running back on the team right now and should be getting the bulk of the carries while Davidson and Howard should be seeing decreasing carries. In my opinion, Howard shouldn't be seeing the field while Davidson should only be used on sweeps. I was somewhat encouraged by the limited snaps Tyshon Dye got at the end of the game. Especially the physicality in a few of his runs. With increased snap counts and more game experience I feel that Dye can be that needed power back for our offense.

Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney defends Robert Smith's hit that led to targeting ejection vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons - ESPN

Like everyone else I agree that the officiating on Thursday night was one of the worst officiated games I had ever seen if not THE worst. I just don't see how the officials could not overturn that call. But yet again it's ACC officiating which is some of the lowest quality officiating. We caught a bad break on this and Robert Smith got screwed over on a great football play. With this serious officiating gaffe, we are now without our senior safety for the first half of the GT game and will have to go with an unproven TJ Green at strong safety for the first half.
