Bernard Sullivan Transferring

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

An already thin 2013-2014 frontcourt just got even thinner with the announcement that Bernard Sullivan will be transferring. Sullivan averaged just 8 minutes per game while contributing 1.8 ppg.

I've always questioned Sullivan's role on this team. He is too undersized to be a back to the basket low post player, but has lacked the shooting accuracy to be a viable option as a face up 4. It's hard to say exactly what his role would've been for the 2013-2014 season. My best guess is that he would've been used around 15 minutes/game playing a similar utility-type role that he played this year.

While his stats are very underwhelming, beggars can't be choosers. Clemson is already low in numbers when it comes to scholarship frontcourt players. Clemson now returns Landry Nnoko and Josh Smith as their only true post players. Neither of these young guys did anything this year to inspire confidence that they'll be ready to provide significant contributions in 2013-2014.

This is a big blow to Clemson's depth and is difficult to replace on the 2013 recruting trail with such little time left in the recruiting period. I expect Clemson to go with a 4 guard/forward lineup that will utilize Blossomgame as a face up 4-man. Sullivan would've been a decent option coming off the bench to fill the same role. Brownell needs to spend the next 2 months getting after it on the recruiting trail because we need a couple of big men to come and play right away.
