Pre-Spring Scholarship Breakdown 2013

Rob Carr

As always, this is a live post. It will be amended throughout the offseason as we get updated enrollment or failure to qualify.

Below is the year-by-year breakdown of scholarships, which must be set at 85 in August. Only 25 maximum new enrollees for Fall per signing class. If we have made a mistake, please let us know, we want it to be as accurate as possible.

I have only counted the former walk-ons who we expect to retain their scholarships, which basically amounts to the specialists. The current 2012 roster list can be found here, but it has not been updated with transfers since the season passed.

*-has had a redshirt year. McNeal has had a redshirt + a Medical.

Blue denotes walk-ons or former walk-ons on scholarship in 2013. Catman and Fagjenbaum are two I expect will remain on scholarship, Sobeski is likely too so we left him. Current walk-ons on scholarship are those 3 plus McElveen, Mauldin, T. Watson, Matt Porter, Wes Forbush, and D. Stewart. Again, those are one-year renewable, not 4 year guarantee.

Zach Riggs is a preferred walk-on and will not be given a scholarship automatically in January of 2014. Current walk-ons on scholarship may be given preferential treatment before him, or Dunn, or Seth Ryan. It just depends on the way the numbers work.

As for positions, it isn't that important where people are on the list right now, but we've put them where we think they fit the best. D.J. Greenlee is not going to play a down of LB here unless we have a disaster, and likely moves to a reserve TE/H role. I am aware that Tankersley is mentioned as a take at CB, but I think he ends up at SS. I suspect there will be another move or two, such as Tra Thomas to FB since he cannot crack the DT rotation. OLB T.J. Burrell should also end up as a SS. Garry Peters may move back and forth and his position will be finalized in August.

As of today, the 2014 class is projected to be pretty small. Swinney mentioned the mid teens. You can see 10 spots automatically open, but I'd be surprised if the 2014 class is not at least 18 signees.

February 24 - Tony McNeal removed, he has given up football after his knee injuries and will remain on Medical Hardship. He does not count towards the 85 any longer.
