Well that was a fun game wasn't it? Always nice to win in some sweltering 90F heat. I don't know how anyone survives the Carrier Dome. Across Clemson's schedule things weren't as simple. There were a few beatdowns, but also a few to many surprises. The ACC is beginning to engage the Wheel of Derp once again.
Be glad you aren't a Georgia fan right now, the injuries these guys have suffered are slowly killing off any chance they have to make it to Atlanta. This game was way to close given the talent level disparity, and I have to give the nod to Florida when the WLOCP comes up in a few weeks. Georgia is going to be rooting hard for LSU to beat the Gators this weekend to provide some insurance against a possible loss to Florida.
Hey the Bulldogs won, beating North Carolina A&T. Hey, no one cares.
NC State: 3-2 (0-2) vs. Wake Forest: 3-3 (1-2)
There are no words to describe this game. NC State losing to Wake Forest was one of those, "No way this happens," type of games. In true ACC fashion though Wake rebounded from a pounding by us to beat up on NC State. While everyone likes to talk about the Wolfpack's chances over the next several years, they will have to stop doing crap like this if they really want to challenge Clemson and FSU in the Atlantic Division.
After some worries that the government shutdown could cancel this game, Army travelled to Chestnut Hill to lose. After BC started well against Florida State but couldn't quite last the whole game, the Boston-based team got the win to move halfway to bowl qualification.
Florida State: 5-0 (3-0) #7 vs. Maryland: 4-1 (0-1)
Um, Maryland what happened? While most of us were hoping for an upset of Florida State, we didn't expect it to happen. Of course I don't think anyone expected this to happen. Maryland still worries me, but this game showed the way to beat the Terps. As for FSU, I'm hoping such a big win makes them a little complacent over the bye week. FSU can be attacked, but apparently no one told Maryland that.
So why couldn't the B1G take Virginia. They got killed by Ball State of all teams. It was close through about three quarters, but then MACtion took over and Virginia was left feeling confused and hurt. This one is going to end up being another game where Clemson hangs 50+ on a team and it will be fantastic.
The Bees lost to Miami in a game that helped cement the Hurricanes as the Coastal Division favorite, at least until the NCAA steps in. I'm truly fascinated by Miami because record-wise they are doing pretty well, but no one is talking about them. That'll probably change going forward, but if we go to Charlotte and play them it should be a better game than our win over Virginia Tech.
The Citadel beat Appalachian State, yes that Appalachian State. For those who don't follow FCS football, Appalachian State is not good at football, kind of like the Citadel.
Did y'all know Clowney is really good? So good in fact that he sat out this weekend's victory against Kentucky with some sort of sore muscle. Even Spurrier was shocked Clowney sat out, although he probably wouldn't have done much to prevent Kentucky from putting up 28 points against USC. The longer the saeason goes the crappier USC's defense seems. Clemson should win this game by more each time I see this defense. May Tajh drop 50 on them, amen.
