3/4-player Donte Grantham (6'8 200), from Hargrave Military, committed to Clemson today over Michigan, giving Brad Brownell his best commitment since coming to Clemson University. His lead recruiter was Steve Smith. I did not think we'd have much of a chance with Grantham, given how poorly we tend to do in recruiting, but Brad held off a late charge by John Beilein to nab the 4-star prospect, rated 66th nationally overall. Playing in the ACC was a strong key in our favor.
Grantham was an under-the-radar player in HS and did not garner much attention. It was mainly after joining the AAU circuit that the offers started rolling in (Cinci, Marquette, West Virginia, UConn). He chose to attend Hargrave on his own and was not placed, and technically could enroll in Spring, but will attend the Academy for this season and will arrive in Clemson next summer. Another year of maturing and work at Hargrave will do him good.
Grantham is another tweener player who would have just enough size and toughness to play the 4 in some sets, along with the usual wing position that he's probably best suited to handle. He looks very comfortable and fluid, rebounds like a bigger guy, and is a transition finisher.
