Today will be an interesting day in college football. The Red River Shootout kicks things off at noon. When OU and Texas get together at the Cotton Bowl, shit gets real. I don't think they play defense in the Big XII, so I'll expect a bunch of points scored. Of ACC interest, Duke heads into Blacksburg for a battle that could directly affect the Coastal race (I cannot believe I just said that). I'll probably flip back and forth there to try and gather information in advance of our game against the Hokies next weekend. The SEC Network features Ole Miss vs. Auburn. I am pulling for Ole Miss to go out and beat the hell out of Auburn. The Blackbears (I think that is their mascot) looks much better this season than in the past, and Auburn looks pitiful so an asswhipping could be in the cards there.
Bama will beat Mizzu's ass on the CBS feature game at 3:30. Missouri has no business playing against these "Old Man" football teams. They suck, plain and simple and are not ready for the SEC. Stanford/Notre Dame also kicks off at 3:30. I personally forget NBC has football and hate Notre Dame so I don't typically venture over there. Maybe today, though I am not sold that either Stanford or Notre Dame is as good as advertised.
Also of note in the mid-afternoon matchups is Fresneck vs. Boise. I first started liking Fresno under Pat Hill and still-for some reason-find myself pulling for them. "ANYONE, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME!" That is pretty cool.
The big one is tonight as South Carolina goes down to the bayou to face the LSU Tigers. The oddsmakers pretty much have this one as a toss-up. LSU will want to come out and run the basics-ISO, ISO, Power, ISO, Power...etc. What they do not want to do is let Carolina's ends act a damn fool. LSU has had their share of turnover at the OT position. Mettenberger, in my opinion, is much better than he is given credit. Make no doubt about it, he is a pocket passer. What that means is he is deadly if he has enough time to set his feet and throw. If forced out of the pocket, it is trouble for the Tigers. South Carolina hasn't faced a defense this good yet. Though I do not like John Chavis' defensive scheme, I will be interested to see how successful Carolina is. I am not sold on South Carolina's offensive line. This means they shouldn't be able to just line up and run Lattimore. Chavis' "Mustang Defense" is not my favorite scheme, though. Either way, it will be the measuring stick for the Gamecocks. On that note, Cockfan has definitely been unusually froggy. I have heard predictions from those cats that Carolina will go down there and beat the hell out of LSU. We'll see tonight.
If you aren't interested in the Gamecocks, the Neckcar circuit runs at Charlotte tonight. The Winston Cup chase is shaping up and the boys are starting to get after it, so don't be too mad if I admit to switching over there for a lap or two.
As usual, the music and the wrastlin' following the schedule and SBN goodies (courtesy of the mothership). Because it is a bye-week, I get to deviate from the usual Motley/Flair, so I hope you enjoy (how can one not enjoy listening to HBK dissing Canada?). In fact, I have enjoyed watching HBK/D-X videos so much this morning, I'll probably start mixing them in more often moving forward.
Have a good day and we'll pick up our Clemson coverage heading into the Va Tech game this week.
