Future Safety Cordrea Tankersley (6-0 195, 4.4 40), from Silver Bluff HS in Aiken, finally ended his recruitment tonight, but we knew this commitment was a long time coming. Clemson had led for his services for quite some time and Coach Harbison and Brooks sealed the deal well before he made it official. He spurned offers from SC and Miami.
Tankersley has been recruited to play DB at Clemson, but plays both ways at Silver Bluff and is the QB, leading rusher, and a part-time pass defender for that small, but quality, program in Aiken. He's definitely a good athlete. Unfortunately there is not enough film of him as a DB to get a solid footing for any assessment of his ability with the ball in the air. I would bet that he needs considerable attention to his footwork if he played mostly offense. I can see that he's going to be big a CB if he goes that route, but his frame says Safety, and he doesnt appear to be scared of laying a hit, and has a developed lower body (arms are pretty skinny still).
At the SC VTO Combine he ran a 4.66 in the 40 with a 4.4 shuttle with a vertical of 31.1in. He did show the lack of upper body development as well.
As a JR he had 1500+ yds rushing and 873 passing with 24 total TDs. He's rated a 5.7 3-star by Rivals for those that care, but I think thats a fair rating.
Clemson plans to take around 16 commitments, but we think that'll be pushed up to 18 or 19 signees total. There should be at least one, likely two, more commitments at DB this cycle. Film after the jump.
