DB Evan McKelvey (6'1 185, 4.5 40') of Berkeley High, cousin of former Clemson WR J.J. McKelvey, was offered by CU on a visit to campus today and offered his commitment on the spot. He has offers from Appalachian State and ECU, and reportedly has scared off other programs because of his grades. He recently got them up, so Clemson tendered the offer.
He will probably enroll in August, or get a grayshirt til January, but this depends on who does not qualify that we are still waiting on. He is a 2010 player. I'd say he's basically a replacement for SS/OLB Ricky Chaney, who did not qualify for Clemson and won't be here this fall.
I haven't seen him play, but this one seems to be a bit of a head scratcher. Chaney didn't have bigtime offers either because of grades. He recorded over 140 tackles and 5 INTs at Berkeley last year and ran a 14.8 in the 110m state finals a few weeks ago, finishing 3rd in 4A.
