Clemson takes DE Tavaris Barnes away from FSU

I said I wasnt expecting any commitments this weekend, given that most of the visitors were already committed to Clemson or other places, but given FSU commitment Tavaris Barnes' comments, it seemed like the door was more open for him than anyone else.

ESPN vitals and a little film

Today the 4-star 27th national DE (Rivals, 3-star Scout) from Jacksonville FL changed his commitment to the Tigers, and has cancelled his visits to UNC and FSU later in the month.

"I just committed a few minutes ago, I told coach Swinney and he was fired up. He was pumped up. We hugged and told one another that we love each other. I liked this place from the very start when I got here."

"I just love everything about Clemson," he said. "I love coach Swinney. I love my recruiter, coach Scott and I love my position coach, coach Rumph. I fell in love with the place. My mom loves the coaches here, too."

"I'm sticking with Clemson and I'm done with any other visits, I'm done with my recruitment. It just feels right here. I know I'll be taken care of here and this feels like it's right. Clemson is where I got to be and want to be. I need to be here. They have an amazing stadium, a great field and I have a great experience here."

More insight can be found from his commitment to FSU article posted at Tomahawk Nation.

Barnes stands 6' 4.5" and weighs in at 250-260 lbs (depending on who you ask).  He ran a 4.70 40 yard dash at the Jacksonville Camp in January.  Barnes also registered a 4.31 Shuttle run and a 7.53 three cone drill (impressive numbers for a man his size).  He really wowed the scouts with his athleticism at the camp with a 32" vertical leap

....

Barnes also looked unstoppable during the one-on-one drills, using a variety of moves to blow past offensive linemen. He displayed advanced use of his hands, good footwork and strength. More good news about Barnes: He has a frame to get bigger than he already is, which should give him some versatility at the college level.  Source:

.....Our resident football coach Oline01075 had this to say after watching Barnes  "He plays high as S***, and gets no extension with his arms.  Squeezes well when play is away or against a down block.  Jesus, he has an elite 1st step.  Wow.  When he plays low he really flashes."
