CUAD Game Notes

Coastal, which began football in 2003, will get its third taste of FBS football after it opened at Penn State last season and went to Kent State to start this year. The Chants will earn $235,000 for its visit to Death Valley.

Chanticleers vs Tigers coverage

Coastal has allowed 157 yards rushing per game and more than 16 yards on 23 kickoff returns this season. Spiller has returned three kickoffs for TDs this season. Spiller will run all over these guys, but we'll see if the coaches give him the touches to make him a serious Heisman contender. I bet they do not. He really needs to show out in the RUSHING column to get strong consideration. A 200yd ground-only performance would go a long way.

Coastal Carolina lost to its first two FBS opponents by a combined score of 84-10. Clemson is 22-0 against I-AA opponents since the subdivision was organized. Despite Coach Bennett formerly being a GA under Danny Ford, this game wont change that.

CCU Coach David Bennett press conference

CCU Offense: Ace-back, 3 Wide with a TE or H-back or 4 wide. Alot of zone running like most spread teams. The OL has been up & down in their performances. I dont see any reason to think we wont sack them at least 6-8 times. The WRs are not good, #81 is QUICK but should be handled by our secondary since he's so frickin short (5'6"). This guy should be playing RB somewhere bigger. I would not be surprised to see him bust a chunk play, but given our talent up front, and the lack thereof for them, this shouldnt be a contest.

Zach MacDowall, QB – Originally signed with Wake Forest out of high school, but redshirted one season before transferring to CCU. He has completed 74-of-129 passes for 973 yards and four TDs.

CCU Defense: TI is saying it looks more like a VK defense, a 4-2-5, but thats not quite what I've seen in the limited tape I've been able to see. It is a 5DB system, but I see a 4-2 and a 3-4 stack look. They blitz more and show more fronts, like Tyrone Nix did at Sakerlina. The DE plays a OLB/DE hybrid and sometimes stands up on the edge but it generally is a 40 front. The SS is good, and has range and is a good tackler.

OL Notes: T. Austin hurt his shoulder at Miami, and took fewer snaps in practice this week. Watch for Mason Cloy to play at LG a little more. This is a game where you can get him some experience there. If McClain gets a big enough foot up his ass, i would not be surprised to see Cloy starting at LG next year.

Lambert's sorry ass didnt play one snap at Miami according to the participation charts. He'll play solely to get him some reps against CCU. David Smith will also play more at LT, especially this week.

But I hope they leave the starters in to establish a strong running game. They need to work on that.
