Terps @ Tigers.

What kind of roles will we see out of Bernard and KJ? Will KJ play like he did against VT?

Also, I didn't include this in the preview because I didn't know it at the time, but apparently Milton is returning from his suspension. God help us all.

Game tips at 7 on ESPNU.

VT gamethread

Another game in the State of Virginia. Will the Tigers play like they did on Tuesday? Or will our play be more reminiscent of the games in Boston and Miami? Milton Jennings is still suspended, and didn't make the trip with the team. Game tips at 4 on RSN.

FSU comes to Littlejohn today for the ACC opener for both teams. With the academic schedule pushed back a week, classes don't start until Wednesday, meaning Littlejohn may see a very low student turnout today.

The 'Noles were tabbed to finish 3rd in the ACC preseason poll, but they didn't look very good in non-conference play, and come into ACC play with a 9-5 record. They have yet to beat a single team that is likely to end up dancing in March. They played well against inferior teams, with their lone bad loss to Princeton in triple OT. But they also didn't notch a single quality win, losing games to Harvard, UConn, Michigan State, and Florida.

Michael Snaer is coming off of a career-high 22 point game against Auburn, and the Seminoles' leading scorer will look to continue his hot streak today.

Trevor Booker, who is also coming off of a career-high 22 point game, is in for a big challenge today with FSU's bigs. Bernard James (6-10, 240), Okaro White (6-8, 205), and Xavier Gibson (6-11, 250) could give the Tigers some problems inside.

Luke Loucks is one of the better point guards in the conference, and is currently 4th in the ACC with 3.9 assists per game. Also keep an eye out for FSU's 6th man, shooting sleeve-wearing Lithuanian Deividas Dulkys, who, along with Loucks and Snaer, is shooting over 33% for 3 on the year.

Hopefully we can somehow get a win today. It'd be a pleasant distraction from the unspeakable horror that we all witnessed Wednesday night.

Game tips at 4 and can be seen on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.

ACC Championship Gamethread: Va Tech vs. Clemson

565157_medium

Which Clemson team shows up? I could see Clemson bringing the pain or just getting hammered. Maybe the members of this team that have mailed it in this year will decide to work hard and actually try to win a football game. Maybe the defense will hold Va Tech under 500 yards rushing.

I think too many guys on this team have grown complacent in practice and aren't worried about their PT. I think our last truly tough week of practice was before the last time we played Virginia Tech and I doubt we had a tough one this week, so I don't think we'll match VT on the line of scrimmage. If you don't win the LOS against VT you almost never win the game. Tech is going to blitz McClain, Thomas, and Freeman heavily so the RB will need to be in to block quite a bit. If we can't run the ball to take that pressure off, then its going to be a bad night.

I'm more worried about the confidence of this squad. If we screw up early and VT gets a quick 6, we'll roll over Bowden-style. If we hang in there and VT happens to not play well, I think we can win. I don't really believe we'll shine like we did two months ago.

You can use this thread for the entire day of Championship games.

B1G-ACC Challenge: Clemson vs Iowa

Photo

Right now we're getting the right guys in the right spots in the motion offense, but they just can't shoot the ball and the youngsters won't be ready to take over a game themselves. We need a shooter, which I've said for years now, and we need a scorer like Stitt badly right now to lead them. We've got several guys who cannot create their own shots and need good screens (talking to you Booker) to get them open in the 1/2 court.

I'm really hopeful Devin decides to play basketball this year, because right now he looks even lazier than his brother. I'm hopeful Milton gets his mind right and plays basketball at some point too, because its not a lack of talent that holds him back, its his head.

I think our perimeter defense has been hot garbage at times, and I guess thats to be expected with your best defenders being freshmen. They still tend to get their feet too close to a defender which opens a lane, and hopefully tonight you'll see some of that cleaned up, because the interior defense is worse (talking to you Booker).

Look to see tonight whether Clemson makes enough effort inside to get to the FT line at all and creates more turnovers in transition.

Those of you watching tonight's games can use this as your open comment thread.

GAMETHREAD: Clemson @ Sakerlina

Never lose faith in the Curse

Well it really comes down to who put forth the effort in practice this week. If Clemson's defensive front prepared to stuff the run like we did last year, and our offensive line decides to rise to the challenge and actually block, Clemson can and should win this game.

The zone read is not a complex play, but to defend it you must be disciplined, and we have not been that at all this season, so I have little confidence we hold the rushing attack below 150 yards. Frankly, I would not be surprised if Carolina looked like the Patriots.

Still, its a rivalry, and these games can go either way, and I fucking hate Sakerlina. Clemson by 50.

Clemson doesnt have anything to play for in this game, but the pitwolfies do.

We'll be looking for improvement in Tajh's decision-making and whether this defense wants to play some football this year.

Clemson Wake 1975

If things have truly changed, we'll have no problem demolishing Wake Forest today and win the division. Of course, if Swoffy had any sense, he'd see to it that his two best teams went to the ACC Champ with 11-1 records like he does for UNC and Duke in roundball, but we're talking Swofford here.

Also, Clemson has a long list of official visitors in town this weekend. Nearly all of our current commitments are going to be at the game, along with several important must-gets for this year and next cycle.

GAMETHREAD: Clemson at Georgia Tech

I'm not very confident our defense will be able to keep a struggling offense in check, but we badly need style points in games like this one to sway voters in our direction. Our defense is holding us back in that department bigtime. Tech is going to score, and they'll get some big plays tonight on the perimeter.

We'll have to take advantage of their lack of size up front and churn the ball down the field and get our defense a rest, because they're going to try to play keep-away tonight. However, we must also get points because the # of possessions can be limited against an option team. If they fumble, we must get it and score.

GAMETHREAD: UNC at Clemson

Photo

UNC probably has as much talent and skill in the front 7 on defense as anyone in the conference with their OVER 4-3 scheme. For whatever reason, they haven't done as well in the back 4 so far this year, and because of the distractions they've had, this has been an up & down year for them as a team. UNC has a good RB and two WRs we coveted here, so I think we'll get their best shot today in the Valley.
