UNC Receives Formal Notice from NCAA

3

The NCAA first started snooping at UNC at this time last year and interviewed players the following July, and now that their investigation is concluded they send the letter of inquiry. Next to look for is the notice of allegations, and the school has 90 days to respond to a letter of allegation, and the Committee on Infractions rules on whether violations occurred and hands out penalties. Nothing would make me happier than for Barker to lean on Swofford after the way he screwed us over with this years ago, and see UNC on ACC probation.

Red-shirt freshman wide receiver Joe Craig has been suspended from the football team and will not be allowed to participate in voluntary summer workouts, Head Coach Dabo Swinney announced Tuesday. Craig was previously suspended from competition with the track team on May 24 due to a violation of team rules. "Joe Craig has been suspended from the football team for the summer workout period," Swinney said. "Because this is a serious on-campus student issue, there is a process that he will have to go through from a university standpoint. I respect the process and will fully support whatever the university decides to do. We will react from a football standpoint after that process has run its course, but I cannot comment any further at this time on the details of this specific issue."

CUAD/TI To my knowledge there has been no official punishment otherwise, and CU has not ruled on the case. They were supposed to have met with the Student Judicial Board yesterday, so I suppose there has been no final ruling.

An incident report obtained by The Journal from the Clemson University Police Department on Thursday classified the incident as an "assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature." According to the report, Craig, also a wide receiver on the football team, was involved in an altercation with Marlena Wesh in the early hours of May 22 at the Clemson House on campus. "Craig and a female got into a fight at the Clemson House," Clemson police chief Johnson Link said. "He received a cut on his arm, and she received a cut on her head. They were both sutured." When officers arrived on the scene, Wesh was exciting an elevator and was "bleeding profusely from an injury to her head," the report said, describing her as "hysterical." Craig was found sitting in a silver Chevrolet Impala parked in front of the Clemson House, "bleeding profusely from his left tricep area." Due to the "size of the laceration and depth," an officer tied Craig’s shirt around the wound until the EMS arrived. Following an argument at a pool party, the two argued twice, before Wesh cut Craig with an eyebrow razor that was "approximately six inches long" and had a serrated blade on the end of it. After that, Craig hit her in the head with a metal towel bar before hitting her while she was on the ground. The fight was then broken up, and all parties left the scene, according to the report. Members of the coaching staff took both to Oconee Memorial Hospital for stitches, and both Craig and Wesh declined to press charges, making it a non-criminal issue at this point. Both Craig and Wesh cited "being teammates, bad publicity, and it was only minor" as their reasons for withdrawing the complaint against each other. Clemson spokesman Tim Bourret said Craig was suspended from competition with the men’s track team two weeks ago, but no further action has been taken. "He is still able to work out with both teams," Bourret said in an e-mail. "He has been suspended from competition." Craig, who redshirted as a freshman with the football team last season, came to Clemson from Gaffney High School, where he was rated as the No. 14 player in South Carolina by Rivals.com for the 2010 signing class.

From The Journal. This corroborates what I've heard about Joe Craig's track suspension. There were no arrests made, which explains why this hasn't blown up everywhere. Craig's status with the football team is uncertain but rocky as the University is handling it. It is not in the hands of either of the team coaches.
