Vocal Segment of Clemson Fanbase Refuses to Move Forward

26

Despite a widespread sense relief and closure -- even from the majority of Tigernet zealots -- following the dismissal of Jack Leggett, it seems that some of our fellow Tigers have an axe to grind with Athletic Director Dan Radakovich.

In a full-page "thank you" ad in a weekend edition of The Seneca Journal, certain fans took it upon themselves to throw a thinly-veiled, passive-aggressive jab at Radakovich for his difficult decision to move forward sans Leggett. "You deserved better" is not how you say thank you. It is how you say "eff you" to the AD.

Of course, we have no problem with former players or coaches defending their beloved mentor. Leggett deserves respect and praise for his time at Clemson. Radakovich also deserves respect and praise for doing what was clearly best for the Clemson program.

I find it ironic that here at STS we are often derided for being too negative (i.e., not spoon-feeding you the AD propaganda like other Clemson media outlets), yet now those same zealots criticize the athletic department. What nerve! Those coots!

If anything, the removal of Leggett -- whether it was handled "properly" or not, as Leggett defenders would have you believe it was not -- serves as validation for Radakovich from my perspective. During his short tenure, I have read critics say he is merely a "fundraiser" AD -- he is not a sports AD and is only here to raise money to pad his résumé for a commissioner job.

That Radakovich removed Leggett when it was clearly time tells me that such criticism is not completely warranted. The jury is still out on Brownell, we don't like certain coaching contract details, and yes, he probably does see this job as another rung in the ladder. But if he pissed off the blind, loyal to a fault, orange goggle-wearing loons...he did something right.
