C.J. Fuller (5'10" 206lbs, 4.59 40), of Easley HS just outside Clemson ended his recruitment by verbally committing to Clemson today. Fuller has offers from NC State and UNC.He has clocked as fast as 4.47 in the 40 and a 10.8 100m.
He is regarded as a Top 15 in-state player and a 3-star prospect as a RB, but this guy is a tweener to possibly get some time at CB, so we do not expect that Clemson is completely done at the RB position. We would take a 3rd and it would justify a move for Fuller to Cornerback. Fuller prefers RB but says he'll help wherever is necessary. His offer is technically as an "athlete", but given the weight gains over the last year, its more likely he'll be penciled in as a RB to start.
My opinion is that this is a tweener offer in itself. I'm not enthralled with the take as a RB but its OK. I think Clemson could pull a better all-around back to replace Cook on the commitment list. He has good lower body muscle mass and enough open field speed, but I'm not seeing much in the passing game due to the offense Easley runs, and I'd like to see more inside-the-tackles running to make a better judgement. In any event, Easley lost a good chunk of their OL and we'll know this season if this was a good take.
As a junior, Fuller rushed 206 times for 2,088 yards, a 10.1 yards per carry average, and 19 touchdowns. He caught five passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns and also returned six kickoffs for 123 yards. As a sophomore, Fuller rushed 117 times for 712 yards, a 6.1 yards per carry average, with seven touchdowns.Note the offense they run is the Flexbone.
Fuller was offered personally by Dabo Swinney and recruited by Tony Elliott.
"I coached Roderick McDowell at Sumter and he's not the same kind of back," Easley coach Grayson Howell said. "Roderick was a guy you wanted to get in space and he'd make you miss and Roderick was 30 pounds lighter. C.J. is as fast as Rod and catches it just as well. He's more of a one cut zone runner that gets downhill."
