2012 Pre-Spring Scholarship Breakdown
This is a live post, and will remain on the left-hand sidebar to keep track of our current numbers. Below is the year-by-year breakdown of scholarships, which must be set at 85 in August. Only 25 maximum new enrollees for Fall per signing class. If we have made a mistake, please let us know, we want it to be as accurate as possible.
Below, we are not counting the walk-ons we feel may not be renewed.

*-has had a redshirt year.
-As of today, there are walk-ons on scholarship, such as the long snapper Philip Fajgenbaum. He went on in August of last year. I would not be surprised if a preferred walk-on got a spare spot either, like Colquitt. Safety transfer Jerrod Williams is likely to get one as well.
- Matt Sanders is on scholarship as of today as best we can tell. I do not expect him back with the team, so I have left him off.
- Walls may or may not be a FB/H in the system, might need to be grouped with TEs.
- We've put guys roughly where they should be, but you have to make a guess for the tweener DBs we signed. Cortez Davis likely slides up behind Hall to start, but could move back to CB. Blanks will start at CB and might end up at FS. You just have to make the best reckoning.
- Per NCAA rules, you must maintain the roster at 85 in August in Div 1. If you drop below 85 when classes begin, due to transfers or not qualifying players, you have to give the extra scholarship to someone. That can be a late signee or a walk-on. If you don't give it to one, you actually lose that scholarship for one year.
- As of today, I would not be expecting a large class of signees in 2013. It will probably be around 15-16 to account for losses. You can see above what the immediate needs will be: Safety, CB, RB, LB, and DE. More attrition along the front, such as DT, would possibly push the signee total to 20.
As of March 6, Colton Walls has decided to give up football.
As of April 11, Oklahoma LB Kellen Jones has transferred to Clemson, he will sit this year on a RS and have 3 to play.
As of May 15, Mike Bellamy has flunked out of CU and will attend a JUCO.

2 things pop out immediately to me.....
….our annual self imposed probation is only 2 schollies this year (though like 3-5 by the time august rolls around given inevitable additional attrition). Sadly, that is actually better than most years.
And, WOW, has our recruiting along the lines been terrible. No wonder we are Team Charmin. Almost no upper classmen? Dreadful.
I agree and want to add that we will have
5 so called specialists in kickers and long snappers , at least one QB that will never see the field and most likely a tightend\hback and linebacker or backers that will tranfer and never see the field. the scholarships are mismanaged to no end. But we get to take the high ground and say that we don’t treat the players like Alabama and LSU’s of the world while those programs only take solace in NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. FUCKIN STUPID
I agree completely
Jack and Ginger said it very well – it’s a self imposed probation.
Only Sophomores and Freshmen at DT? And most of them aren’t good. That is troubling.
Only 4 DEs on the roster? Also not a good thing.
That’s mismanaging recruiting. We should never be in this type of situation.
I agree about the lines recruiting, but I actually think this still stems from Tommy Bowden’s tradition of sometimes taking two OL in a class. Dabo is responsible for the recruiting philosophy, don’t get me wrong. But he had to fix some poor recruiting trends under Bowden that wouldn’t get solved over night. While Dabo brought in a series of LBs last year and a # of OL this year, this was actually done to get us back where we needed to be in terms of balancing the roster. For the most part I have no complaints about Dabo’s recruiting philiosophy. His classes seem to be more complete than his predecessor’s. I think, if Dabo has success on the field, we are going to see more classes like Alabama’s. Maybe not in terms of talent, but just the balance across positions. I think Dabo actually does well in this area.
I’ve got Vic Beasley listed with the DE’s, not the LB’s. It’ll be interesting to see what BV does with him…outstanding athlete, with no true home.
Any idea what class J Williams would be in and how many years of eligibility he would have?
The chart looks good.
I'll probably move Beasley and Dodd in spring practice when I hear where they end up.
Williams took a RS and sat out one year, so he should have 3 years eligibility I think.
What position would Beasley be moved to, possibly?
Do you think he could become a tackle?

Vic was lost when they tried him at TE...
Understandable, considering he never played offense. I think Tackle would be way too much to ask. Much better suited for defense, IMO.
What's the point...
of making a school use all 85 scholorships or they lose them the next year? Never made sense to me. Why penalize a school for not using all their scholorships?

Keeps you at D1 levels
If you cant afford to pay the 85, they want you to drop to 1-AA.
Its only a year commitment to the walk-on anyway

No kidding...
Thanks for the answer. Makes some sense i guess. Paying for something you dont want just prove you can afford it is pretty pimp too.

A class of 15-16 isn't going to cut it.
Too much talent that Clemson is involved in to sign so few. We need to sign no less than 20 for 2013.
A couple of spaces need to be made available.
