Key statistics to pay attention to here are the total yards for Clemson and against VT as well as the amount of plays we have run vs. the amount of plays they have seen. Clemson is averaging close to 80 plays a game, while VT is only used to defending 60 plays per game. This could play to our advantage if we can continue the trend. Clemson has put up some big numbers on offense over 4 games, but VT has given up half that amount (to seemingly lesser opponents however), therefore I think VT will definitely reduce our yards per game average.

From a rushing stand point, I do not think our run game will drastically improve against this defense. Although our rushing numbers are not horrible, they’re not what we expected coming out of the gate. Making it even harder is the fact that VT has only allowed 172 rushing yards against 4 opponents. They are a top 5 rush defense, and will likely continue that streak against our struggling run game.

The one saving grace against this defense is they are not a top 10 pass defending defense. They rank 32nd among all defenses when defending the pass. Florida St. is ranked 19th in pass defense AFTER playing us. This bodes well for us, seeing that 2/3 of our offense is the passing attack.

There is nothing mind blowing about these stats, besides the fact that the VT defense is getting some turnovers their way. If they can create turnovers against us, then the game could take a drastic turn in their favor.
Overall, it is somewhat safe to say that our offense is a much stronger match to their defense than they have seen over the past 4 games. We have weapons that they have to account for while not giving up plays to the other weapons. Look for Dwayne Allen to play a large role in this game on offense.
